Default Yes, another breed guess for fun
Now, I know my dogs are mutts.

I am curious to what breeds people see in my two though.

So, Serenity is a Kelpie x Red Heeler, that's pretty clear. Her mum was a Kelpie x though. I've had a lot of people see another breed in her so I'm interested in seeing if anyone else can see another breed in her. She weighs 12kgs (not sure what that is in lbs).

I wont say Sunny's breed for those who don't know. I have a hard time believing his mix because he's so scrawny so I am interested, what would you think if you saw him?. He weighs between 16/20kgs.

I know Serenity wont be a easy guess since she looks like a Purebred Kelpie almost and the red ticking is hard to see but several people see a certain 3rd breed in her.

She looks like a kind of wannabe Kelpie mutt, to small IMO, and he looks like a black mutt. Maybe some kind of lab mix or something, no breed really sticks out just a generic black dog.

Thanks. Ya, she is defiantly small for her mix. I did see Kelpie's can weigh between 14-20kgs. I have seen a Kelpie that weighed 15kgs and it was still bigger so I wonder if she's just badly bred between a Kelpie and Cattle dog or if she has another breed in her.

She might just be a "badly" bred ACD, or "badly" bred ACD with another part Kelpie/ACD, and then that was her Mom?

See the resemblance

Who knows though, she is a neat looking little dog but I am not a fan or herding typed dogs, far to nippy for me usually.

That is very true, she could be actually. I never thought of that. Thats fair you're not a huge fan of herding type dogs. I haven't met a lot of herding breed dogs but the ones I have met haven't been nippy. We've owned a Purebred Red Heeler and he wasn't nippy at all, sadly we didn't keep him long because of my idiot family members but he's the reason I adore Cattle dogs.

I mean anything is possible because without knowing for sure what her parents were, its impossible to really know, I mean people can say "Oh the dog was this and bred with that and you got a XYZ from it" but if they arent versed in dogs or dont know for sure its like trying to listen to gibberish.
They just arent my style, I like the terriers better. I had a Australian Shepherd/Chow Chow and then not to long ago an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie (looked like a smooth coated BC though, again who knows when dealing with mixed up dogs) they were both great dogs, but a close friend has a AS Mix and he is nippy and wont hesitate to snap at a hand, same with my close friends ACD, and her Moms blue heeler thing, they are mean little asses who bite lol

Here is the last one, the AS/BC mix (Bell)

Damn good dog had to rehome her because she needed more one on one work, and she is doing awesome in a friends home with a nice big ranch to work at

1kg = 2.20462lbs
12kg = 26.5lbs

I'm not sure what I see in them, other that cute, happy dogs.

I like most herding dogs I have met. They're smart lil buggers in general and seem to do very well when trained and exercised mentally and physically.

Course, I may be kinda crazy. My Aunt is my age and we had young kids at the same time. I used to go to her house and we'd kick our total of 7 kids (ages 11 and under at the time) outside with her cattle dog, KC. KC would spend hours herding the kids into a corner of the yard, letting them go and herding them again. The kids knew he was herding, treated it like a game and everyone had fun. KC got to herd and be exercised, the kids got tired out while not being in our hair, and my Aunt and I got a lot of laughs. As a bonus, because he saw the kids as his flock, if any of the little ones tried to go to the gate he would block them and bark for us to come out. Never had a young one escape from the yard

As for your mixes, I lol'd My husband is so sick of me guessing breeds and showing him pics to guess that he has just been throwing up his hands and saying "Who cares? They're all wolves!"

That's true, without seeing the dogs you never know, especially since some people seem to lie. It really isn't a concern to me though what breed they are, I have an idea though I'd like to know why Sunny is so damn lanky for the breeds he has in him.

I don't know what I like better between Terriers and Herding breeds. I haven't had enough experience but my dream is to own a SBT and a Red Heeler at the same time. I was two young to really enjoy my SBT and Serenity is a great dog but she isn't the best example for a herding breed. I admire both breeds really.

You are right about them being snappy but then again, all dogs are different, I'm sure there are plenty of herding breeds which arn't snappy. Now thinking about it, my aunts Cattle x and two other Cattle x's are snappy. That's the one thing I hate about the breed, how they can be like this but it's the breed, I'll try to own a better example of the breed when I own another herding breed. I lurk a ACD forum and I'm shocked how many ACDs dislike strangers so much, I sometimes wonder if Serenity's attitude is just due to fear or the Cattle dog in her as well.

Wow, what a stunning girl she is!. Sad you had to re-home her but I'm glad she went to a great home. I feel bad owning a herding breed and she's not working.

I always thought your first dog was a Shiba mix and the other dog was a SBT/ACD mix.

The guess for Serenity was a shock, lol. Sunny is a close guess. I'll post what his mix was meant to be when I wake up.

Gosh they are smart!. I love that. They are so loyal and devoted to which many dogs are anyway.

Lol, KC sounds awesome!. I would have loved to see that. The herding instinct in them is quite interesting and funny to walk. I love when I have a ball and Serenity moves into herding mode.

Lol, your poor husband but you have to tell him, that wasn't a proper guess!.

Do you own a herding breed at the moment?.

KC was the best. I miss him. He was put down about 6 years ago because he had epilepsy. Once he was maxed on medications and still having seizures, the vet said it was causing brain damage and would kill him eventually. Unfortunately, on Christmas, he had a very big seizure and just kinda never came totally out of it. He was too far gone and they made the decision to let him go.

Nope, I haven't owned a herder in years. We had an ACD mix when I was a very young kid, but I haven't had one as an adult.

I'm not sure what I see in them.

The first one definately looks like some sort of herding dog.

Both dogs are beautiful!

If you didn't already say what the first one was, I would have no idea of what it could be. Same goes for the second dog.. no idea. Cute dogs, though.
