Cleaning Supplies
What pet safe cleaning supplies do you use around your dogs? I thought about buying a Swiffer for our kitchen and bathroom but my mom told me that it was making pets sick. Also I want something that is going to be affordable because I feed raw so I'm constantly wiping down the counter and floor (Shelby eats on the kitchen floor since it's a laminate).

I use Seventh Generation, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day (lavender), and Method products. I clean my floor with the all purpose MMCD cleaner, just mix is with some warm water and then mop the floor. Or you could use a cleaning wipe or something. I actually started using it in college because traditional cleaners about gassed me out of my little apt with all the chemicals.
Seventh Generation I use for dish soap and counter cleaner. I prefer the free and clear, but antibacterial was all they had last time... I don't like the smell, but its still better than huffing chemicals when you're wiping down the counter. I use Method stuff for cleaning the bathroom and handsoap and junk. Love that stuff! Does she leave behind gore or something? My dogs clean their crate pans immaculately when they eat. |
She will leave a little mess but nothing that I can't clean up quickly by just wiping down. I've just been using white vinegar for now since I had it in the pantry. Where do you find your cleaning supplies? I've never heard of them...
|
i just use water and lysol for some surfaces but if you want you can get roccal-d it is expensive but a little bit goes along way. vinager is really good too and cheap and safe enough to be put into food.

Nature's Miracle. It'll get the funk out of everything. Otherwise I'll honestly just use 10 parts water to 1 part bleach
|
I use 409 all-purpose cleaner for the floor and counter. Probably not the best thing for the dogs' feet but they aren't allowed near it when it's wet. It has to be dry before they're allowed to walk on it.
|
you could always wipe it down with water afterwards if you are worried.
|
Honestly, I'm really not worried at all. I'm mostly just trying to avoid any members here that might have some sideways comment to say about my using chemicals around my dogs.
Plus, my dogs are dainty as hell. They don't walk anywhere that's wet. |
lol i gotcha http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png
i know that i am hyper protective of absorbing things thru paws had a neighbor loose a dog to cancer from fertilizer i will not walk Peanut near houses that use fertilizers even and he wears boots on walks because of that neighbors experience. to clean the tablecloth i feed him on i use dawn and water. when i wash my carpets i litterally use shampoo (it really softens that carpet http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png and smells good) but i never really think of things like what i use to wash my bedding that Peanut uses or get specific with ingredients on things i use occasionally or not close to him but things that i do all the time i try to use more natural sources. |
My standard cleaning supplies include Swiffer wetcloths for the floor, and Scrubbing Bubbles for anything else lol I also have a bleach dilute and Clorox wipes on hand!
|
since my dogs are not inside I use Mr. Clean floor cleaner, I use a lot of vinegar solutions and bleach, clorox and lysal wipes and the swiffer wet and dry. For dogs stuff I use natures metrical it just works.

I don't have any carpet in the house, so I just use bleach and water for everything. I have a pre-mixed spray bottle for the counters and tables and I make up another mix a bit stronger to mop the floors in the basement family area. Upstairs, where my parrot lives, I can't use bleach very often due to the fumes, so I use Lysol in another pre-mixed spray bottle for the tables and counters and make up a bucket for the floor.

I use mainly Odoban for cleaning floor/counters/dog areas. Here is a link: http://www.odoban.com/products.php and I just saw they have a cucumber melon scent and I am super excited! I must try this! Although I do like the original formula.
I was at Target the other day and got this new Murphy's Oil Soap. It was in a clear bottle and the stuff was a light green. It was "natural". Smelled really good and did a great job on the floors. I tried googling it and couldn't find it. Vinegar and baking soda I use to clean out sinks and drains. Bleach for toilets and showers. I like Swiffer Dust and Shine for cleaning the wood shelves/entertainment area. For laundry I have been using Arm and Hammer Tropical Burst for the dogs and Tide Febreeze for my stuff. Also use the Bounce dryer bars. We go thru a freakin ton of cleaning stuff here! I can not stand doggie odor and I'm constantly cleaning and washing stuff. I swear my washer will go crazy one day and attack me! |
O....lord I use so much stuff...
Odoban Beach is my best friend I have spray bottles of bleach everywhere. I use it to clean crates everyday Lysol...everything gets sprayed in the stuff For the yard I have a pump sprayer that has a bleach mixture and everything gets soaked allowed to set 10 mins and then rinsed extra good Then Odoban in the pressure washer and soak everything again and then pressure wash everything out. I do this every Sat rain or shine, sleet or snow...lol As soon as I pick up poop I spray the area with a bleach mixture. I keep a bucket on the yard filled with Odoban and a scrub broom to clean with daily I also keep a 5 gal bucket in the supply building that has a bleach mixture that all pooper scoopers go in when not being used I am so fanatic about the cleaning process around here, I have a different mop and bucket for every room and bleach hits my floors everyday. I also have small foot pans with bleach mixture at each entrance to the house and if you come here you have to step in the mixture before coming in the house. It is only deep enough to cover the bottom of the shoes. I keep a plastic tub of bleach water in the dog room and all food bowls go in there as soon as they are done and then I wash them the next morning Hand sanitizer at all doors of the house and in the kitchen and bathroom I think I covered everything....Here are some pics when we were cleaning the yard last Sat ... http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...15528033_n.jpg http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...34749008_n.jpg My work station in the dog room....see the bleach and hand sanitizer lol http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...22739695_n.jpg Every morning..... http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...53870037_n.jpg ---------- Post added at 10:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:05 PM ---------- O, meant to add that I am a little OCD http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif |
I do use swiffer wet jet on our wooden kitchen and dinning room floors, green works from clorox all purpose cleaning spray for most counter tops and spills, and clorox cleaning wipes for nearly everything that requires disinfecting. For Zoey's food and water bowls, I simply use dish soap to wash them. I do bleach the backyard patio down usually, once every two weeks or so. Especially if I am feeding Zoey her raw meals out there more often (which is usually during spring/summer time). I wash her bedding blanket twice a week with just gain detergent.

That crap about swiffer making pets sick was a myth. its fine.

Sorry I haven't been back in the thread for a few days - I've been busy moving and we don't have internet yet. Thanks for all of the products that I can use. I will probably just do bleach water or possibly rubbing alcohol for the kitchen floor and counters - it's a small kitchen http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png I'll probably just do the same for the bathroom which is even smaller http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif But we do have a lot of carpet... what do you like to use on your carpets just to keep them fresh smelling? I hate dog odor so I want to keep everything smelling good - I use Wallflowers and Air Wick plug-ins.
But when I get a house I'll definitely be getting these products. |
