I thought Piper was named after a gun too. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Bentley came with his name. Every time I've thought of changing it, I slip up and call him Bentley. So he's got a bunch of nicknames. Pokey (like Pokey the Puppy book), Bug and Toad but I don't know why.

When I took Sema out of the shelter, her name was Lisa, which does not fit. I took her straight to the vet where she stayed for three days. When they finally told us she was going to make it, we wanted a special name. My son spent hours reading baby name websites and found the name, which means Heaven. it stuck.I have a cat named Larry...and I call him asswipe sometimes...

I went through my CD collection and was gonna name her the first song or band name that worked since I wanted her to be named something meaningful to me and heavy metal is http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png So I ended up with Slayer.

I also won't reuse names.. which is really difficult when you've had as many pets as I have! And if I know a dog personally, I won't use that name. Like I wanted to name Sako "Ruger", but my trainer friend has a Dobe named Ruger, so that was out.

Me neither! I don't use names of people/other animals I know.. it's just weird lol

I don't re-use names, ever. So once a certain dog is picked for a name (like Skyjacker was), I won't ever use that name on another animal. I love naming things... I name my vehicles and cell phone lol
I named my vehicles, phones, cameras, computers too, so you're not alone http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

My car's name is Buttercup... http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/redface.png She's yellow.

Also, if we're including previous dogs...

Roxy, the dog in my avatar, was a rescue from the shelter, she was already named Roxy, it suited her, we kept her.

Before that we had an ACD named Rocky after Rocky Raccoon.

A Toy Poodle named Sugarbritches, who we didn't name.

A mini Dachshund named Booger Butt, who was named after a dog my aunt had when she was a child. His name was Booger, and so I wanted to name a dog after him, so we had "Boogie."

A Pomeranian named TinkerBelle aka Tink, from Peter Pan (during the whole Disney names kick!) This is also why Lily's name is significant because Tink came from a BYB and in memory of her I chose Lily's name from Peter Pan also.

I name all my cars. Loll

mudozvonf 11-29-2011 03:23 AM

Most of my dogs came with a name-

Katie and Chaos were named when we got them...Though I still hate Chao's name.

Gauge- Was named Gauge by my Boyfriends brother who was suppose to take him...We kept Gauge though because we had a dog named NOS at the time and Gauge and Nos fit together.

Wally's name changed MANY times when we got him...It started Monty, then went to Huckleberry, Huck, Walter, Wallace then finally Wally because we could not decied on walter or wallace.

Nope, she's the weird one not named after one LOL. Eric wants to rename her "Kimber", but I told him it's too late!

If I didn't adore the name Piper so much, I'd say go for it!! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

Actually... yes, go for it! If you change her name to Kimber, *I* can name something Piper LOL

LOL, you can not have it! It suits her well.. and so many nicknames can come from it.. she's usually "Pip", "Pipette", "Pippen", or "Pipe".

Okay, I don't like any of those nicknames, so you can keep it! I've always wanted to name something Kimber, and I like the nicknames that can come from that! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/tongue.png

My husband brought our female home and I named her Harley - then he decided she needed a companion - so he brought home my male - Davidson. So now we have Harley and Davidson... It fits
1

Tegan was originally Trinity. New beginning - new name (I hated that name anyway)! I didn't want to make things any more confusing on her, so I stuck with a "T" theme and the only thing that fit her smooshable face was Tegan!

I'm one of those obnoxious chicks who likes to name her little dogs after fashion designers and tote them around in purses. So Prada and Versachi were no brainers! :P

I have always wanted a dog named after my favourite video game character. So when I first started talking to Aeris' breeder and saw her pics, I just new that dog was to be her!

Narcodran 11-29-2011 05:30 AM

Some came to me already named... some I named...

Sheaba (RIP) was 4 weeks old when I adopted her from the HS, and I wanted something unusual, I had never heard Sheaba, and someone suggested it.

Maxx (RIP) I adopted from the HS when he was 2-3 years old, I don't know if he came there named Maxx, or if the shelter named him.

Gizzmo is 13 yrs old, and when he was a pup, he looked like a Gremlin from the movie, so I named him Gizzmo Valentino (I have no idea why the Valentino). http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Mollie is 7 yrs old, and technically, my daughters dog, she named her.

Titus Savage is 5 yrs old, and my sons dog. He was named after the character my son played in the high school play "The Curious Savage". It was my son's first high school play, he did a great job in it and Titus' name fits him perfectly.

Zoey is almost 4 years old, my daughter rescued her from the side of the road beside her dead mother. She had her named before she got home with her.

Bella is almost 3 years old, and the rescue had already named her. It fits her perfectly, so I didn't change it.

Cooper is about 3-4 yrs old and I rescued him after he was dumped at this girls house. She was taking him to be put down and I decided to take him in and foster him for a few weeks. I had no idea what to call him, and tried to think of every dog name I could, but he didn't react to any of them. Somehow, Cooper seemed to stick.... and I've had him a year and a half now, still fostering him, but he seems to be happy right where he is. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.png

rostpribru 11-29-2011 05:31 AM

When I first picked Zoey up, I thought of Zo at first. My aim was to pick a name to sound slightly of a rhyme with my name http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/tongue.png so it would sound nice as a "team" name I suppose. So my sister than suggested Zoey and I just went along with it and loved it.

immewaycypef 11-29-2011 05:38 AM

I think most names just randomly come to me, all except Wendy my poodle who is named after the restaurant. And solo my bf named because he was the only one that colour in the whole litter.

veizKinquiz 11-29-2011 05:54 AM

Well Buster just stuck..really I cannot remember how we named him. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif I wanted to name him Bullwinkle since we had a Rocky (RIP) but it was too much to call him that. Rudy we named after Rudolph the red nosed reindeer since he looks like a deer. Dixie's name was Fritza (gag!!) at the shelter and there was no way in hell I was keeping that. My family and I decided on Dixie and it just fits her. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png It was almost Clariece since we have a Rudy. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/tongue.png

I have 2 cats, too. Both were rescues. The oldest one was named Silky but I hated that and let my daughter change it, so she is now Saffi.

The second one they named Barrel, because they found her in a barrel.....of course I had to change that!! The first night we had her she was going crazy running around and playing so we named her Loco. (I understand it's masculine, but it fits better than Loca)!
