What Do You Think She's Mixed With?

I'm wondering what you guys think..... I got my Pit Bull when she was 9 weeks old, and she looked pure pit at that time (by pure, I mean APBT).... She's now almost 9 months old, and she turned out to be a very lean, skinny, leggy, FAST dog.... She weighs about 45 lbs...
My mom swears she has some type of hound in her... I kinda see that when she's running, looking like a little whippet/greyhound racing around......But what do you think she might be mixed with, whippet? Pharaoh hound?...... Or, do you think she's just a super lean pit bull? .....We actually had her DNA tested to see what it came up with, with a DNA test kit we won at a raffle..... LoL it came up with some pretty ridiculous breeds... The least ridiculous one was Bulldog, but it also had german shepherd in there, and golden retriever and a couple of toy dogs lol...

I'm assuming you don't have a pedigree? Without one, you'll never know.

Ebjjrxrd 11-25-2011 04:03 AM

DNA tests for dogs are a waste of money. I am with Prada.. Without a ped, you'll never know.

qwerty1 11-25-2011 04:04 AM

Well, without peds won't know for sure, but you are aware that true APBTs are usually lean...not bulky.

veizKinquiz 11-25-2011 04:35 AM

Yep without a ped, you will never know. She is pretty leggy, maybe APBT/hound?
I wouldn't say Pharoh Hound though. Whippet or Greyhound could be possible. And do not waste your money on a DNA test, they are crap. She is a beautiful girl, just enjoy her. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I agree with everything posted thus far.

Also, she's still a puppy and even her head won't be an adult head until she is a year or so old. She will change and MAY not be fully mature until around 2-3 years old.

She's a very pretty and very lucky dog. She is what is widely accepted as a pit bull type dog.

This.

Her head has an interesting shape, but she looks like a typical "pit bull type" dog. Could be a mix, could be a poorly bred purebred, could be a well-bred purebred with an immature head... no way to know without reputable documentation http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I understand that. ..I just thought it would be interesting to see what people think..just to get ideas.. I know I'll never know for sure without a pedigree.

Yeah I'm aware that APBTs are lean.. I keep telling that to people who say she looks mixed.

I know they're crap, I wouldn't buy one, I got mine for free.. Thanks http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Well, those people probably think the bulky, short, hippo looking dogs are APBTs.

Just curious.. What makes her head shape interesting?

loyalgagora 11-25-2011 07:14 AM

Ignoring the fact you probably don't have a pedigree... what were you expecting from a pitbull? short, stocky, thick and 100lbs?
What you described is an APBT... leggy, lean, FAST and around 45lbs. Despite not having a Ped. I would say she is all APBT she is only 9m/o and looks just like one.

But like most have said... you may never really know unless you can get a pedigree from her breeder.

No, like I said, I'm aware that APBTs are lean... it's just that she's leaner than most, maybe my pictures don't show it well enough.. I'm just curious about what people think... I got her from the humane society, from a big litter of puppies, all looking the same..

There is absolutely no way of knowing without a ped.
Never do DNA tests. EVER. I know of someone who tested an APBT and it came back as English bulldog x Border collie.

read the posts.

who cares though. you have a dog. a nice looking dog at that.

I have a 9 month old female APBT/AST cross and she is shaped just like your girl. Leggy and lean. I think my girl favors her APBT side, at least so far. Like others have said, she's not done growing and will continue to fill out for the next couple of years yet. It is normal for adolescent dogs to be more lean than normal. I don't think your girl is mixed with anything, she looks all pit bull type to me, she's very pretty. Below is a recent shot of my girl, Chassis, for comparison. More in my profile album, if interested.

A thread from another forum with Diesel...he is leggy and was just a bit heavier at 9 months...now 77.7 pounds everyday, all day

You have to remember she is young and will fill our a lot too. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png She's still a super lean pup, just wait until after she turns one, chances are she'll fill in quite a bit.

She has a shallow stop and long muzzle. It's cute, don't get me wrong... but it's interesting!

Thanks for the pic, she does have a similar body, & she's very pretty http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png .....Yeah I guess my dog is probably all Pit Bull, I've just recently started doubting it tho, cause my mom kept saying she looks Pharaoh Hound.... But that breed is not very common, so I know it's not too likely lol
