I am trying to find out if there are any bsl laws or regulations preventing the pitbull from becoming a service dog in Arizona. I would like to train our 7 month old pitbull to be a service dog for my son who was just diagnosed with high functioning autism. I was told he can't. Can someone please let me know where I can find out if this true or not?

They cant deny a dog to be a service dog based on breed, even if there is BSL. Thats illegal.
I have yet to get the script I need for my dog to be my service dog, but he is a bully breed and there aint shit they can do about it by law. I am in Phoenix/Glendale, and so far our state has no BSL or anything, thank God. |

On July 26, 2010, the United States Department of Justice issued its Final Rule to adopt accessibility standards In accordance with the American’s with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).
An issue covered in the final rule issued by the Department of Justice is that of local laws that discriminate against certain breeds of dogs serving people with disabilities under the ADA. Particularly, pit bull terrier type dogs who are also service dogs. Hotly debated over the last few months and the subject of two federal lawsuits, the question of pit bull terrier service dogs was finally answered by the Department of Justice. The rule states, “The Department [of Justice] does not believe that it is either appropriate or consistent with the ADA to defer to local laws that prohibit certain breeds of dogs based on local concerns that these breeds may have a history of unprovoked aggression or attacks.” |
