Lol my list is starting to look pathetic more and more each time someone posts haha

Faumpiggueria 11-11-2011 05:31 PM

1. Shelter "pit bulls" (my dog could easily be apbt and/or amstaff and/or american bully)
2. Staffy bulls
3. English pointers
4. Golden retrievers
5. Mastifs
6. All setters
7. great danes
8. Viszlas
9. Border terriers
10. Salukis

In no real order after 3. I like FRIENDLY, there are some breeds who I think are very apealing that are supposed to be reserved or even mistrustful with strangers, it's just not a quality i'd want in my own dog, But I'd happily adopt less typical individuals. Some of my favorite dogs I've met have been 'guardian breeds' who had never met a stranger. I love a marshmallow rottie or german shepherd. I used to groom a Douge de bourdeax (sp?) with a wiggly pit bull personality, she was soooo sweet and gorgeous. I like soft, silly affectionate dogs in most shapes and sizes with the exception of anything with poodly hair (bichons, pwd, etc.) shi tzus, llhasas, I guess i really don't like any dog who's hair grows indefinately for some reasonhttp://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/confused.png. I like DOGS, i like WAY more breeds than I dislike. I'm also not really into asian spizty dogs like akitas and chows.

Have you ever actually handled a Magyar? I am really interested in this breed, I've heard they have a Greyhound-like temperament but are more robust and sturdy.

Yes I have! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png There is a breeder a few hours from me, and I've helped handle her dogs in the field for her. She also runs the all breed lure coursing we do, so I see them there. She's a member here, since she took on a co-own APBT - Her screenname is probably Stouthearted or something similar (after her kennel name).

What you've heard is pretty accurate... they're very Grey-like in temperament, but definitely more sturdy. I haven't lived with a Grey or a Magyar, so I couldn't help you with the differences in the home... but I like Magyars better for the field, because I don't like a fragile dog - and Greys are the most fragile in the field by a long shot lol

Yeah, Greys are fragile, that's the only thing I don't like about them. If there were any Magyar breeders near me I'd have to have one, lol, although it's really difficult for me to imagine liking them more than I like Greys. I just love racing hounds, it's what I grew up with and I never got over it. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Greyhound skin is their downfall. It rips way too easy. I don't think there has been one hiking trip that mine haven't had an injury! Biggest vet bills for Greyhounds is stitches! When my old boy Linus was alive, I don't think a year went by when we didn't have one major trip to the E-vet for stitches and drain tubes for him b/c he alway made sure the regular vet was closed before he got hurt! Although skin glue is my savor for small tears! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Yeah, my grandpa's vet always seemed to be there fixing up my grandpa's dogs. At the end of his career though, he was a master of suturing up wounds himself. I used to be really paranoid when he would let some of the dogs play together. All it took was one little nip or scratch and somebody was bleeding.

cestsennY 11-13-2011 07:37 AM

1) Great Dane
2) American Staffordshire Terrier
3) APBT
4) SBT
5) Doberman
6) afghan hound
7) Mastiff
8) BT
9) frenchie
10) rottie

after doberman you can pretty much put 6-10 anywhere on the list, I like them all but as for which one I like best (after doberman) I'm not sure

I do like a well-bred correct bully too

RicardoHun 11-13-2011 11:01 PM

These aren't in any particular order!

APBT, Pomeranian, Great Dane, Mutts/Shelter Dogs, and... I can't think of anymore right now; however, I'm sure I'll think of some more later.

The breeder I know just bred the very first American-born litter of Magyars earlier this year lol so there aren't really many "breeders" out there. I think there is another litter being planned - you should get in touch with her if you are really interested http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png I also of an adult female available http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png

Their skin, and their heat intolerance! Grey owner/handlers in the field have to carry SO much water, and have an emergency cool-off kiddie pool and kit in the judge's vehicle.

Leaters 11-14-2011 03:08 AM

1. Belgian Malinois
2. Tervuran out of Malinois
3. Dutch Shepherd
4. German Shepherd Dog
5. Border Collie
6. Distance bred Alaskan sled dogs
7. Seppala line Siberian huskies
8. Akita
9. Alaskan Malamute
10. Rottweiler

*Though I really love Rotties (and APBT's, Rhodisan Ridgebacks, DDB's, Corso's, and Boer Boels), I have to admit that I prefer furrier dogs that can withstand weather a little easier. I mean geeze Lily is happy in 100 degree summer heat or 15 below zero with snow on the ground and her feet are nasty tough naturally so that most goat heads don't even stick in there.

http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/eek.png I knew they weren't common here but I had no idea of all that. That's really interesting. If I wasn't saving my last open spot for awhile for an APBT, I'd be real interested in that.

ZAtlLVos 12-12-2011 06:24 AM

1. American Pit Bull Terrier
2. Rottweiler
3. Hounds (Especially Redbone Coonhounds and Bloodhounds!)
4. Rhodesian Ridgeback
5. Australian Cattle Dog
6. Border Collie
7. Alaskan Malamute
8. Catahoula Leopard Dog
9. American Staffordshire Terrier
10. Dogue de Bordeaux

if I could add another to the list, it would be Australian Kelpie. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png
