No they didn't give her anything for pain, which surprised me.

Yes, it's possible she was still in heat when you took her in. Rita had very long heat cycles and sometimes went into heat back to back due to hormone imbalance.

I just kept mine as calm as possible and did a lot of crate rest. Rita acted pretty blah for the first day or two after her surgery and then she tried to go back to normal behavior while I tried to keep her from hurting herself until she healed.

Some dogs are a bit more sensitive to the spay surgery than others. You could ask for pain meds, i personally didnt but my dog was fine. Spaying a dog in heat from what i understand is a slightly more difficult procedure even though im not sure why.
For now i would just wait it out and make sure she takes it really easy if shes bothered.
Is cleo crate trained? Maybe some crate rest will help for a day.

From what was told, the surgery is more complicated because the uterus is getting increased blood flow and is engorged. It takes the vet a bit more time to sever the veins and arteries and to remove the uterus because of that.

She actually seems better today, well at least she's not whinning so perhaps we don't need any pain meds. Yes she is crate trained, and she has a bed also. She was only laying in the bed and really didn't want any part of the crate until I put a pillow in it. She's been basically laying still since we bought her home on Friday. She ate and drank a little last nite and I did get her to eat a baby carrot, but she's not interested in anything yet but laying there thx for the advice!

She could be feeling a bit icky with the anesthetic also. Nitro was whining for most of the evening after his neuter and was weird for a day afterward, even with painkillers, and the vet said that's usually a reaction to the anesthetic. It makes people feel crappy, I imagine dog reactions would be similar.

He's back to normal now. I hope your pup gets back to feeling like her old self soon.

She just could be feeling blah too from the hormonal changes, especially if she was in heat. My vet told me with Sema that she might be moody for a few days because she was just going into her first heat when she was spayed and it's a huge hormonal shift to adjust to.

Cleo was spayed yesterday and she looks so miserable The vet said she would be up and back to normal in a couple of days. Now here's my question, she went into heat on 9/26/11 and stopped bleeding around 10/20/11, but the vet told me yesterday that she was STILL in heat. Is that possible? Also, is there anything I should do for her while she recovers? Poor Cleo, she looks so sad

It is possible for her to have still been in heat at the time you got her spayed.

It's possible for them to be in heat when spayed. I hope she feels better soon.
