Fine example of why I crate my dogs when I leave.

I seriously wanted to haul off and hit the guy, and I was cussing and yelling pretty decently at them. The crying part is the pregnancy hormones LOL There's be no use in trying to haul off and hit the guy, though... he's in his 60s and would probably hit me back O.o

Zoe - I would crate them inside if I had A/C, but I don't and my little trailer is like a vehicle when it's warm out - the temperature fluctuation is INSANE. At the time this happened, it was only 85F-ish in the sun outside, but almost 110F in the house Which is one of the main reasons why I made outside set ups anyways - no matter how hot it got outside during the summer, it was hotter indoors and at least they had shade, the breeze if there was one, and water all the time.

Can't your parents get on board and have him keep his dog contained since he is their guest?

Technically if it is their property and say a big dog fight broke out and either his dog got injured/killed or he got hurt trying to break up a fight...couldn't he technically sue them? (I'm just thinking that might get your parent's attention...mentioning money usually gets people to at least give what you are saying due consideration.) And no matter how good a friend this person may be...you never know who is lawsuit crazy even if they don't have a legitmate reason to be.

Personally I think your parents are assuming allot of risk...

Sorry to hear about your predicament. I hate when people automatically assume they can play with your dog. I have received tons of dirty looks and comments when someone let's their lab run/drag them over to me when I'm walking my dog and I keep walking. I don't want a play date, I want to exercise my dog without incident.

This^ is an awesome post! I live next door to my parents (I'm their neighbor). However, the property that I rent is on my parent's acerage and thus I have to follow their rules just as I would any landlord. Thankfully they are very responsible about the dogs and people bringing dogs and we don't share a yard! However, cause they rented to me who had an APBT type dog(this was Red), their Homeowner's dropped them and they had to get a new company. The insurance rep. told them that even though I carried insurance on her and rented from them that they could be liable in a civil lawsuit as the owner of the property. Pretty crazy.

This is why my dogs are crated inside or outside in a locked kennel with a top and bottom when I'm away. That way there are no accidents. Maybe talk to your parents and see what they have to say? Good Luck.

Unfortunately, in trying to teach my parents that Pit Bulls are NOT crazy monsters... through Bindah, they've also decided that they aren't dog aggressive, either. Bindah is literally THE coldest dog I've ever seen... she gets bullied by the boston, and just loves to play with EVERYTHING.

I am going to see if we can get my fencing finished, so I don't have to worry about it... I wish I could afford kennels or really fancy set ups I am trying to talk my father and cousin into helping me at least fence in smaller areas in my yard to act as kennels. Something... anything!

Ya... if they are on chain spots, even some shitty fencing might keep the other mutt out. Man, I'd be pissed. If it was my crew, Tank would have already used that dog as a squeaky toy. Stupid, clueless people....

Can you maybe look on craigslist and see if you can find some cheap fence panels or the 10 X 10 panel kennels you can attach them and make an enclosure around your dogs chain spots and the fence will hopefully keep others out. We fenced our entire yard behind the house with those kennel panels and i got them dirt cheap on craigslist it works great to keep other animals and dogs out of our yard.
