Default How could your dog help you?

So I'm sitting here watching this TV show called "The Colony" on Netflix. For those of you who don't know what is it, it's basically a reality TV show where a group of people are put into a post-apocalyptic setting where they are tested and tried as if it was real.

It got me thinking. If the world were to end in this way, how could a Pit bull, or any dog for that matter, be of service to you? What would be the pros and cons of having a canine pal with you? For a little more elaboration, these people are in an abandoned warehouse with limited resources...they have to go on reconnaissance missions in order to get more food and clothes and supplies, and all that jazz.

My question for all of you: how could your dog help you? How would your dog burden you? Any thoughts on this would be cool, I think it's a fun little topic.

dogs were bred for different things, most dogs are good at hunting that would help you out alot, every dog that was created was bred for a pourpose, the doverman was bred to guard a mailman, yorkshire terriers were bred to catch rats out of a warehouse, beagles were bred for hunting.. having a dog would be very helpful

Lol, my boyfriend said the same thing. I asked him and he said "Uhhh, FOOD." Lol. But in reality, a good hunting dog could probably catch you more food than you could get off of him in a week.

The kids and I have already discussed what would happen with the animals if shit hit the fan. The fish and cats would be fed to the dogs. We'd make a stew out of the bunny. We'd keep the dogs that are the best at hunting and guarding and the rest would be dinner for them.

Sounds like a good plan. Haha. We have a fat, old dachshund named Penny that I don't think we could have the heart to kill, though. She would just be a burden to feed and she's not good at anything except for taking up space on the couch, but man. I couldn't do it.

Hey man... you never know when the zombies are coming. You've got to have a solid plan.

Ya.. I can't say it'd be an easy thing to have to be faced with but if it came down to my kids survival, I'd do what I gotta do....

I actually WANT a zombie apocalypse to happen. That would be awesome, really. But not fast zombies like in 28 weeks later. Zombieland zombies would be pretty perfect.

Luckily I don't have kids yet, lol.

No! No fast zombies! Ya.. my daughters fucked if shit hits the fan. She has Cystic Fibrosis so there goes all her medical care. We already have plans to hit the drug stores, health food stores, score some solar panels for her compressor, my son's always researching what we can do to make homemade meds for her. Ya... we've given this a lot of thought.

Well, in this day and age, you have to. The apocalypse no longer seems like a horror story and is now more of an impending doom...

But I honestly think it would be super cool to have dogs...no doubt.

Also, when my boyfriend and I are settled, we already plan to fill a storage unit with water and MRE's and canned foods and all sorts of stuff.

BE PREPARED! *Has flashbacks of Lion King* Lol.

OMG. My son is obsessed with MRE's. He's detemined to find some gluten free ones for my daughter as she has celiac, too. She's got a pretty rockin' big brother.

Ummm... I don't think pot would help my daughter out. Probably make shit worse. It'd sure help me out though!

Oh ya! We want to figure out how to hook the dogs treadmill up so we can harness power from it! I want that for now though, not necessarily the apocalypse!
