If that is the case my dog has dominated his pillow for years because he is always licking it among other things like my sheets, carpet and face. lol

I had Sandi with me at the shop earlier, lying on the pavement outside. A customer stopped to pet her, sat down beside her to stroke & within seconds they were flat on their back with dog pinning them down & licking them. Much giggling & spluttering was to be heard from the 20 something Irish victim.

I know a dog who licks and wont quit can have an anxiety problem, or be very nervous.. but just licking like a normal dog, I think its an affection thing and trying to show respect to you.. I know when Bear comes up and licks my leg he gives me this look like he is trying to say, "look how cute and loving I am, your awesome!"

Well I've always said that when Jake starts licking my hands or face, he's just cleaning the spot where he plans on ripping into me! How sad it must be to think this way about a dog.

I've actually heard the dominance/submissive stuff before, it's pretty 50/50 so you'll just have to judge by the dog yourself. I also think it calms them down, tbh. But my dog licks me, rarely licks anyone else in the family. And when I say she licks me, it's like I'm a popsicle. But she's a very submissive dog, and only listens to me (I have to leave the room if my sisters want to play or do tricks with Roxie), because I am her god, lol.

I read somewhere that when dogs lick they produce endorphins. When humans get touched we also produce endorphins. When Marty comes home and is in a foul mood Rita will pin him down and lick the shit out of him. Within 5 minutes, they're both happy. I figure licking is a good thing.

See ignitethis..our dogs are similar..though mine doesnt lick me a lot..just a little on the fingertips or arm here and there. She only listens to my commands..no one elses and if I scold her she rolls on her back all submissive. For someone to tell me my dog dominates me...LOL..I just thought it was ridiculous.

Those are the same people who say 'oh you're pitbull just wants to play, cause it's tail is wagging'. Licking, like wagging, doesn't always mean one thing.
