The exact reason i decided to get a girl!!! but now that i have Vindex i just hope he doesnt start lifting his leg. its not so bad in the summer but in the winter its hell!! Not all do, especially when they're trained not to. Males don't (intact or not) don't HAVE to go around marking everywhere. |

For what it's worth, Laine (now about 2.5 or 3 years, hard to remember) started lifting his leg when he was about a year and a half old, well after he was neutered, but he doesn't always lift his leg... in fact, he usually doesn't.
Opie (now about 7.5 months) on the other hand has been leg-lifting for like, three months, and he always does it. |

This morning I gave Bear something crunchy and he spit out one of his back teeth
![]() And I was messing with him right now looking at his mouth and the other one on the other side is loose, almost out, probably will be by the end of the night!!! My little man is growing up!!! His canines are turning the color right before they fall out too ![]() Now all I want him to do is pee like a boy dog lol how long until he finally lifts his leg? He is starting to pee in multiple places when we walk him, but still no leg lifting.. Here is a picture from the other day ![]() ![]() |

Oh good
![]() I've found stray dogs, typically unaltered males, and they were constantly pissing in my house. I don't have time for that bullshit, and I didn't want to deal with it with my own dog. When Bear starts lifting his leg, make sure you have his potty training down pat, and nip that habit in the bud before it starts. Once they get started lifting their leg in the house, it's practically impossible to stop. I think it's definitely harder with dogs who are raised primarily outdoors, which is why I asked. Best of luck! ![]() |

Depends on a lot of things, Mater is over 5 and still squats to pee. Anakin started lifting his leg at 5 months, but I had a female in heat. He is 9 months old now and still squats 90% of the time. Leg lifting is a dominance thing and a marking of Territory thing. Males that live with others unaltered males or unaltered females may demonstrate this sooner some never do it until they have been breed.

Being altered or unaltered has nothing to do with leg lifting.. neither does the age they were neutered. Wilson rarely lifts his leg, and he's 2, was neutered at 8 months. My parents Lab was neutered at 5 months and is now 11 and lifts his leg all the time. Sako is 6 months and hasn't started yet, hopefully he doesn't.
Personally, I hate leg lifting and marking, so I discourage it. I've never let Wilson pee everywhere he wants to when walking (although he's really never been big on it, but he tries sometimes), it's annoying behavior and letting them mark wherever they want can lead to them marking in the house, and other places you don't want them to, just a warning. |
