is this average????

Louie is a year old.. he measures approx 21 inches to the shoulder and weighs about 5stone... he's not flabby or fat and he's extremely active.. someone has said this is far too heavy for his age (joint problems etc) but he's well proportioned and extremely fit and active...?

70lbs for a dog 21" at the withers sounds a little heavy to me. Do you have a pic?

expabsPapsgag 03-27-2011 09:22 PM

sounds heavy to me, my boy is 60 and 25" at the withers, photos would help, profile shots of standing are the best

DoctoBuntonTen 03-27-2011 09:56 PM

It depends on the dog and its build.

Mine,21" @ the withers and 68lbs.

Mine is 22 and 57.7 pounds. And he's definitely not heavy for his size but he has a mix of something in him

Ditto,.. Achilles (bully) is about 23" and 72lbs,.. much less than that and he's too spiney and ribbey which to me doesn't look good on him.

To the Op post pics of your dog,.. side profile like above and everyone here will let you know.

here's a pic not a great onehttp://s1217.photobucket.com/albums/...t=P3270001.jpg.. I was just thinking he might be a little bit taller than 21!

According to the pic you posted that dog is not fit. Chubby rather...

dXI9XFOA 03-27-2011 11:27 PM

I would say border line,.. he's a little chunky could loose a couple pounds. But I wouldn't let him gain anymore.

fedelwet 03-27-2011 11:28 PM

hmm maybe he could do with a little more exercise then!!!

ApporpSothe 03-27-2011 11:30 PM

He is a bit overweight, going off of the pictures. He could probably lose about 5-8 pounds.

Tw1anJOO 03-27-2011 11:30 PM

How much are you feeding him?

Mstng beat me to it..

fedelwet 03-27-2011 11:33 PM

he gets 400grams of organic dry nuts but he does eat scraps in the evening... he generally does a couple of miles walking or running each day too

Tw1anJOO 03-27-2011 11:35 PM

That is a lot to eat. And why organic dry nuts?

Timoxari 03-27-2011 11:35 PM

yeup he just looks a bit chunky that's how my zoey looked around 1 year a little less chunky though but now that she is in the best shape of her life I can see drastic differences!

fedelwet 03-27-2011 11:38 PM

he has allergies to wheat and preservatives etc.. he used to get acne from the cheap dog food and done some serious farting! but he's ok on the new food.. maybe he likes it a little too much!

Tw1anJOO 03-27-2011 11:39 PM

So all he is getting is nuts and table scraps or do you feed him dog food as well?

fedelwet 03-27-2011 11:40 PM

nope he doesn't get dog food.. the nuts are supposed to have everything he needs but he does get raw meet or cooked meat

Tw1anJOO 03-27-2011 11:42 PM

Why give nuts if you are feeding raw meat? A raw diet will give him everything he needs more than the nuts will IMO.
