I think it depends on how much you trust your brother in law. Will he follow the vets instructions on after-care? Will he know what signs to look for if Bam Bam just isnt... "right" after the surgery (ie: not eating, drinking, vomiting, etc)? I think I'd be worried about that, especially if brother in law isnt much of a "dog" person and won't be keeping a complete watchful eye on him at all times.

If I was in your shoes, personally I would reschedule for a ''first available neuter'' when I return.Since the dog is not a female and heading into heat, nor is this a medically emergent nescessity to do him like right NOW.I would probably wait until you come back.

Yeah, I'd definitely reschedule. You'll have a lot more peace of mind about the surgery if you can keep an eye on Bam Bam yourself. Plus, you can more easily ensure he's properly cared for afterwards in terms of keeping him calm and watching for signs that something's not quite right.

My girl didn't know she was spayed ... I imagine it's even easier on the boys...

This.

A few days after Lucy got spayed, I had to go out of town to a wedding/family crap thing. I felt terrible, but I left her with a friend I trust who I knew would follow my instructions and spoil the crap out of her.

I would definitely be more lenient seeing as how it's a neuter and not a spay, but it still depends on how much you trust the folks you're leaving your dog with - like PeytonLove said.

It would depend on how comfortable I was with leaving the dog in their care.... if you are super comfortable, then you could go ahead with it. Personally, I would probably reschedule, but that's just me. I would want to be there, "just in case".

Good for you!

I think if you feel uneasy about it, then you should reschedule. You are the best person to determine your dogs needs.
