Default Male vs Female
Just curious as to whether anyone has preferences between owning male vs female dogs.

Are there things about a gender you prefer?

Are there behavioral/temperament difference you notice?

We have both. Just curious about other people's experiences

We also have both but I prefer male dogs for some reason. I have not notice the difference between the two genders. I think it is all up to personal preference on what gender of dog you like the most. (Plus I do not like to deal with the whole heat thing with females. Hence why I will only own spayed females.)

I prefer males, females are bitches.

Seriously though, I like them both but males better for some reason.

All of our dogs are fixed...I wouldn't want to deal with that either! I can't tell if I'm just making it up but it seems like males are a little more affectionate...as least with me. Maybe they just all have crushes haha.

Both of my males cling to me. But then again both females cling to me also. So that is really not much help.

I prefer girls....

They don't pee on everything, they don't try to root everything & they don't embarrass you by sitting licking their lipstick in front of Auntie Mabel. In my experience they are a bit easier to train & slightly less instinctive too.

Lol, Sandi, I feel the same way! Boy dogs are gross, but they seem to be sweeter/more affectionate in general (in my experience.)

I like my male dog, but man, the boner licking, and his obsession with boobs is embarrassing. And he's really dumb and clingy.

I love my females. I spayed them before their first heat. They also seem to have more common sense than my boy.

I have always preferred females. In my experiences, they have been easier to house break and easier to train. Gizzmo is 12 yrs old, and to this day, he will still hike his leg in the house if I heave him alone for 2 minutes. The females I have had have always been more even tempered and not as stubborn, of course, now that I have APBT (mixes), the past dogs that I had that were stubborn were a walk in the park. But as a general rule, I tend to have better luck with females. Right now, I have 3 of each, and they are all pretty easy to deal with, if you take out Gizzmo's leg hiking . Titus has been great after he got past the puppy stage, and Cooper was full grown when he got here, so he's been easy to handle, and he hasn't tried to hike his leg in the house at all.

LOL that made me chuckle. Poor Auntie Madel. Our male was actually the easiest to house train interestingly enough.

There was only one male pit that I ever had trouble with. He belonged to an ex boyfriend of mine. He wasn't fixed and his life mission was to incessantly hump me.

Even so, males kinda of have my heart...even though it's a 3:1 female to male dog ratio in our house.

I am convinced that our male Kane always hears circus music in his head all the time....he's just sublimely happy for no reason all the time. I do agree that our girls have never really been stubborn.

My females are not too bitchy...all very sweet but there is just something about males . Carmen is kind of forceful about wanting attention. She will get in your lap and stare at you desperately if you don't pet her. She will just move her face progressively closer to yours and look exponentially more desperate until you pet her. She's such a goof. Kane just cuddles up next to me and stays planted there until I move.

I gotta say, I do think I kinda love Gigi haha

You're her boyfriend hehe. I do think there is something to that though. Just in my experience and with friends, it seems like females dogs favor the men in their home and male dogs favor the female. I know it's not like that for everyone but that's what I feel like I've noticed.

Sandi has been fixed but every dog & I mean every dog she has met, has tried to hump her. It disgusts her. She is focused on playing & turns around to find anything from a Yorkshire Terrier to a Ridgeback, tongue hanging out, eyes glazed, fully tumescent & thrusting away at thin air where she just was. Then they do that dog interrupted waddle, maintaining position, trying to catch up with the odd little thrust en route.
If it had a sound track it would be " Oh baby, please don't go "

Makes me larf

Our female husky/gsd can be stubborn thing on occasion. she's extremely smart and is the only one that can be kind of willful.

Male. The only real reason? I find it easier coming up with male names than female names xD
