Concern for lumos

I don't know if I have put this in the right place if not if one of the adims could please put it in the right place thank you.

Hi everyone,
I'm writing this because I have some concern for my 20 month old English Staffordshire Bull Terrier Lumos.
I imported lumos from London England to Denver Colorado in October. When I decided to move I knew that pit bulls were banned in Denver so didn't have any worry for Louiwee but a friend of mine has told me staffordshires are also banned in Denver. I now don't know what to do with Louiwee. If they were banned then why did they let my fly him to Denver? I don't know if anyone can give me any advise on what I should do with Louiwee so the city don't take him. Thank you all Natalie and lumos

Move. Denver sucks. At least move outside city limit signs.

Contact a breed specific rescue that can find Lumos a home where he will be safe.

Either move to the outskirts of town, to a connecting county that doesn't have BSL, or contact the Rescues in that area to see if they can help you either find him an APBT savvy home, or help direct you in a non-BSL area that would be within driving distance. Also, check to see if the BSL is a city only ban, or if it covers the whole county. If it's city only, start looking for a place in the country. In the meantime, find someone that could possibly foster him until you figure out what to do. I love Denver, but I would never move there due to their strict BSL laws. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png

The ban spans the city and county of Denver.

yuck, that stinks. Yeah, I'd probably check into surrounding counties, and see if they have breed bans. In the meantime, definitely get someone that isn't in a bread ban city, to look after your pup. You don't want to put his safety at risk.

I pretty much have to echo what the others have suggested. Either move outside of denver to a city/county that is BSL free or find a breed specific rescue that will help you find him a good home outside of a BSL area. Another option do you have family or friends outside of Denver that are not in a BSL area that would be willing to give him a home? Those seem to be your only options I'm afraid.

Denver is nice and its a place I want to visit but I would never live there due to all the BSL crap.

As to why they let you fly him there, I'm not sure.

FYI: Typically a ban on pit bulls includes: The American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, etc And any mixes or dogs showing characteristics of the "Pit Bull breed". (Ex: Broad head, wide chest, a set of teeth..my bad all dogs have teeth, but you get the point)
It sucks but its the way things are right now. Hopefully we will see this change in our lifetime but its still going to be a long road before bsl goes away and the discrimination against such a great breed ends.

Thank you all for your advice. To be honest we are going to move out of denver asap. Finding Louiwee a new home is out of the question as he has had a very had beginning to hes life. First being dumped at my petshop when he was just a week oldthen being attacked by another staffie at the park when he was just 4 months old causing 35 stitches to he's face and a £1,000 vet bill and out of all that he is still a loving friendly part of my family.
Me and my other half were thinking of moving to lakewood or just completely out of Colorado all together.
Does anyone here live in Colorado?
Thank you all Natalie and Louiwee.

Okay maybe I'm following this wrong here. I thought you said you had imported him from London, but now you say he was dumped at your pet shop when he was a week old? I'm confused.

They have petshops in London :P

I assumed the OP meant that she's from London, and had her dog shipped from there to here.

Oh airhead moment, that makes sense. I assumed they bought and had the dog imported from London.

Oh sorry everyone I should have mad it a bit clearer. I owned a little pet supply shop in London and a couple teenage boys dumped a whole litter of 7 1wk old staffie pups on me and louiwee and he's sister were the only 2 to servive. Then decided to move to Colorado as it's were my other half is from and now stuff in this delama with Louiwee.

SNUfR8uI 11-29-2010 09:15 PM

Make sure you move outside of the Denver county because the ban includes the entire county.

I would move outside Colorado in general. I believe there are a few other counties that have really bad breed bans also. I can't remember which ones off the top of my head.

Move to Idaho. So far so good here, except for Payette county and who wants to live in Payette anyway? http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

Montana and Wyoming are pretty clear of breed bans also. I think the Butte area has had some proposed bans, but I don't think they passed. The Gallatin valley in MT is frickin' awesome. Okay done pimping the NW now. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Best of luck with Lumos, he is beatiful. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png
You've gotten some good advice.
I would move, if it were me.

Maybe even find a relative or someone else you trust who is not in Colorado and have him stay there until you find your new place. That way he'd be safe in the meantime.
