Default question about my soon to be pup papers
Okay new here thought i would sign up as im going to pick up my puppy in a week, There is one thing that im curious about the puppy im getting is registered with UKC as a American pit bull terrier and also registered with ABKC as a American bully is this possible? Is this some sort of trick to make the offer sound better? just wondering...

Sorry if this is a stupid question but this will be my first pit so just making sure....

Thanks for any and all help....

No its not a stupid questiona very well though out one. You just also answered your own question. By the looks of it if its registred with the ABKC most likely its a ambully. Yes it possible for it to be double registred .May i ask what was the price you payed for your pup?

He might look healthy to you but you really dont wont know by just looking at him. There can be problems that the parents pass on to the pups I wouldnt say screwed but i wouldnt be paying that price if i know my dog is gonna be suvering from health problem later in his life.

...I dont understand why he would be charging you extra for the papers.... i have heard of some BYB keeping papers just to sell them later on (on a different dog). I would really check on this...

Do you have a certain goal with your dog (ie. for game, sports, family pet)? Papers to me didnt mean much because I really wanted the pup for a family pet.. however, if your looking into going more in depth make sure you know for sure what your getting.

I also agree with the other posts that you really cant tell whether or not a dog is healthy by just looking at him/her. I wouldn't say your screwed, but its better to be safe then sorry.

if your breeder asks you MORE for a pup with papers, RUN.

I have never heard of a good breeder asking more for papers. that is ridiculous.

ohhh, and the ABKC is an ambully registery, so that's another thing on which you got screwed if the dude sold them dogs as being "apbt".
a lot of ambully's however are still registered under the UKC as "apbt". so don't be fooled!

(most) ambully's are a far cry from what an apbt is, both physically and mentally.

I would say "the hell with those 200 bucks deposit" and keep looking for a GOOD dog from a GOOD breeder that will be worth the $$$ you'll be giving him.

It all depends on what you want out of the dog. $ 600 is a lot of money for any dog, to be honest, but for an AmBully where you can see people charging 5 times as much.. it's reasonable, I guess.

I do have to agree that charging extra for papers is BS, but if you don't care about papers.. why spend the money? It is way cheaper to ILP the dog with UKC and then compete in sports than to give this breeder another $200. Of course, if you were thinking to compete in conformation with this dog.. you probably will need the ABK papers. Don't bother showing an outright Ambully in UKC. It won't place.

It's against most registries rules to charge more for papers, either he registered the litter or he didn't. That said, if he's an Ambully there's no use in having UKC papers anyways because he's not a APBT. "Papers" are only as good as the breeder they are coming from and it sounds like these are pretty worthless. If you don't care about papers and just want a pet why not hit up a rescue instead of paying $400 to some byb? Poorly bred Ambullies are a dime a dozen these days and plenty of them in shelters.
