Thankfully my area in general is very pitbull friendly. My breeder recommended his vets office and some of the staff actually has actually adopted from my breeder. Thankfully we have a lot of cheap spay/neuter places here. Even for vaccines and flea treatments. This year they opened a 501c3 clinic vet office here in town. I'm in my glory. Comfortis for 15 dollars a pill or 55 for 6 mos.

Find another vet.

This one does not deserve your business, not would I want him handling my dog.
I agree. I used a Vet in the town where we used to live...until I brought in my German Shepherd who, at that time, was 9-1/2 years old. He said, "you can never trust these dogs not to turn on you. I would be very careful with German Shepherds especially. It's not a breed I'm too fond of. When they reach up in this age, they will turn on their owners."

9-1/2 years old and barely any teeth from years of malnourishment and lack of Veterinary care.

Needless to say, I found a new Vet.

well pittsburgh is about 3 hours away i live right in the middle of columbus oh and pittsburgh,
my husband says i should "suck it up" that he did well with the dog just had opionions of his own, he only has 1 set of shots left then we are good for a whole year

about that vet banning pits, thats rediculous!
There are some awesome vets in the Columbus area if you don't mind driving a couple hours once or twice a year.

My favorite vet in the world has slowed his practice down. I have been using him since I was 15 yrs old and uhhhh.... I am now over 50. I like the new vets at the clinic but NO BODY will ever take the place of my Dr. Baker.

I'd get a new vet. Not worth it IMO. You think he's going to treat your dog the same as any other if you have some kind of work done requiring anesthesia?

There's a reason my parent's drive an hour instead of using the vet in our hometown. His nickname is Dr. Death.

My cats are still at my mom's and it takes me two hours to get them to my vet. Worth it though.

I agree I would find another vet. IF you are only going to him for shots, you may want to research other options for the dog's shots like the traveling vet clinic or do it yourself (all except rabies which have to be done by a licensed vet). Then maybe find somewhere else for real medical needs that may come up, even if it is a drive. I would not give someone money who criticized my choice in dogs.

A good vet is worth a long drive if the local one is an asshole.

I'll have to contact some of my friends that are still up there - I was only there for a year for school. As soon as I get some names I'll shoot you a PM

I totally forgot all about the OSU veterinary hospital! If you are willing to drive to Columbus definitely check them out! They have some of the best vets! Here is the link: Medical Center :: The College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University

Thats horrible, I would of walked out in the middle of it. There's no need to have to listen to that BS.. It makes me glad that my vet loves my girl, they are actually excited when I stop in with her.

Does that clinic in Wichita falls tx actually believe that spaying/neutering changes the behaviour of these dogs lol

and it's obvious the dogs that attacked were abused or not treated properly.

A few years back I had to take my rottie to an emergency vet clinic cuz another dog pushed him through a glass window. His muzzle was cut up badly. I called them on the way there telling them the situation because he was bleeding badly. I got into the room and the vet wouldn't even walk in the room. He stood in the doorway and Tyson was bleeding all over the place and he said wow is that bad, he's gonna need a lot of stitches, you better take him to your vet tomorrow and walked away. I was dumbfounded. Then the receptionist said it would be $80.00. I told her to kiss ... and walked out. My husband and I wrapped him up as best we could and took him to our vet the next day and had him stitched up. Get another vet even if it means a drive.

i would never take my dog to a vet that is discriminating against my pet's breed. that is like a doctor that discriminates against a type of people.
personally i would worry about what type of care my dog is going to get because that vet doesn't care for its breed. some vets are in it for the wrong reasons.
i would RUN from that hospital, drive the 3 hours once a year to get a good vet. JMO

as long as the vet care is 100% and hes all you got i would deal with it but if your vet gives you service thats not 100% i would say make the few hour trip maybe there is a veternary board you can talk to about this guy

ok i will take APBT might be responsible for more deaths than any other breed ...
Just for future reference, the last stats I saw listed the Rottweilier - not the pit bull - as the #1 breed for lethal bites & the APBT dropped to #2. Just so you can inform him ...

"Rottweilers have become America's deadliest dog breed, surpassing pit bulls, according to a study by the American Veterinary Medical Association."

And yes, the vet sounds like a jerk!

Blessings ...
