So I went to the Hostess store today to get my husband's sandwich bread & munchies. I am friends with the clerk there & she asked me about "silver" pit bulls. She said her friend was bragging about the "silver" pit bull her bitch just whelped & how it was worth $5000.

I told my friend that silver is just a fancy name for blue & a dog is only worth what someone will pay for it. I also added there are TONS of blues who were homeless in shelters & rescues across the country & added how my husband & I even rescued a blue & white dog that was skin & bones & had been dumped on the street!

I also mentioned how I have seen people a dog shows with litters of blues they had priced at much, much less then $5000 & they could not sell a darn one. I also told her that we have a blue dog ourselves & we paid $200 for him ADBA registered & all. She about fainted. She also lol @ her friend!

Grrrr. I hate this whole "blue is rare so it's worth thousands" thing. You would have think that crap would have died out by now. I gave my friend my phone number & said she could pass it on to her friend if she wanted to. She said she would. Hopefully I can do a little education.

Whew. OK sorry for the rant, but I had to get that off my chest.

But yes, people can be idiots. I did tell my friend that her friend if the moon & stars all aligned she might sell that pup for $5000, but it would only be to an idiot who knew nothing about the dogs. lol.

We do not have a Hostess store. I did not even knew they had them.

$5000 that is a lot of money. That is like five months of mortage payments for me.

A few years ago we had a friend tell us he was starting a kennel and after I wasted countless hours trying to talk him out of it he proceeded to purchase 2 "rare blue AmBullies" at $3,000-$5,000 each. He bred them when they were about a year old. She had 3 puppies and he was only able to sell 1 and he barely got any money for him. The "pick of the litter" he was trying to sell for thousands ended up being surrendered to our shelter and was adopted out neutered for a small adoption fee. The parents ended up killing the 3rd puppy and he took them to Animal Control. Some people just have to learn the hard way....

Idk I'm from california I really don't hear things like rare blue pitbull because everyone and there mom has them its like the majority color in shelters also well over here.

Well we have 5 of them at our shelter and it is a hell of a deal at $80 fully vetted with tags then!! Maybe I'll adopt them then resell them for $5k to your friend!!

We had two obviously overbred females come in - sweet but just beat up as anything - and the guy came to get them and told me he had paid $10k for one of them from a guy in Miami and how the dog could be traced back to the 1800's. As a volunteer I am allowed to say whatever and I politely suggested he spay them and stop breeding them since we euth about every pit bull that walks in because they just don't get adopted - all he said was "oh no ma'am I don't breed these dogs". UGH!! .

We used to have a discount Hostess store too - sad days when that place closed...
