Pre-quel(history)....have had Nate from a pup 10 years ago. Took in Patches when she was 8 months(nov. 2008) when a friends parents wouldn't let him keep her.
Quite some time ago I posted about a dog that had been attacked by its housemate. I can't remember what I said about it back then so I'll start from the begining. Mocha( aka Red7) lived at an acquaintances house. One of dogs she lived with did not like her and attacked her a couple times. One day I went out there to take one of their (six) dogs to be put down(Somebody had to step up as the dog was very ill and suffering and I couldn't live with myself for ignoring the situation so I volunteered to pay for the euth). When I showed up on a Sat morn to take this Daisy dog to the vet the girl "C" wasn't there. Her roommate comes out and tells me that Lana(female APBT/maybe mix idk) Has attacked Mocha and that "C" is in the hospital from breaking up the fight(this was the topic of the old post back in april 2010 maybe). I told her roommate to hop in car w/Mocha and took her to my house(Lana had a few scratches but was okay), asked DH if I should take her to the vet or if he thought the injury would heal, we concurred to take her to the vet. I call C's almost ex-bf and ask if he will pay me back(never really expected him to and he never did nor did she). Since C did not even inquire to when Mocha was to be picked up from the vet the next day I handled everything alone myself. C was going to have her hand wrapped up for a few weeks I made the decision to take Mocha to my house. She stayed here until early June 2010. Then C decides she wants her back.(about 3 months she(red7) had lived here at this point). I begged her to let her stay to no avail. She 'had' to *try* keeping her. dumb. I heard through the grapevine that Lana and Mocha got into it again a few weeks after Mocha went back out there. A week before Mocha was to go home my sister calls me about a puppy she found in the city about 1 hr from here, she found him in the 'hood' at 3am sitting in the turn lane of some street. Since she has no money nor desire to take him to the pound down there I said to bring him up here and I would take him to ours as they are very caring and all adoptable animals go to a rescue that fosters and places them if they don't get adopted out of animal control. She shows up with the tiniest little black fuzzball that is absolutely adorable. And did I say TINY. This pup was 7 weeks per the vets guess. I wasn't sure at first but now he is 4 months and I do believe he is a purebred lab. Also only last week I realized someone had taken his dew claws off. I can only guess at his history Well after Myles being here over the weekend and inquiring with AC on monday I find out they do not require a vet reference for adopters. I spent 45 min in tears and DH says okay fine keep him. A few days later C comes and takes mocha. Jump forward to mid August. All is well with three dogs. My phone rings and C asks me if I want Mocha back. WTF.....So I say yes. What else could I do. She is doing okay but it will take a lot longer this time for her to be back to big smiles because I am keeping her separated at night(always did and still do when we are gone). The first time I let her stay up in the house at night but now I crate Myles, put red7(mocha) in the spare room(which is really cool it has a dutch door, one that opens on the top so she is not totally locked alone. But this does give Nate (10yo) and Pat(2.5yo) the alone time in their house that they desire. Now I have a 10 yo lab/shep/pit mix. A2.5 yo pit mix a 1.5 yr old likely APBT at 1.5 yrs and a 4.5 month old lab who is HUGE, he already towers over Mocha and is about as tall as Pat and Nate! Well, I love them all but man is it a zoo in here. Red7 needs to be spayed and is trying to rap[e the other three or the wall or anything, it's terrible, I wanted to give her time to adapt before spaying but wish I wouldn't have now. So she is spending the majority of her heat in the spare room. The only real problems are that Pat is really depressed and aside from giving her alone time by keeping them separated when we are gone or at night and letting her sleep with me I don't know how to get her back to her happy go lucky self. She is the sweetest girl ever and is very clingy and lovey. She loves everything, every other dog,she just loves everything. I don't want her to lose that sweetness by being depressed but have no clue what to do beyond what I do already. Anyway I wanted to tell the story of my zoo. |
