Default What would you do if your dog(s) was stolen?
I always say I'd be very calm and first go to the shelter and let them know he was stolen. Then I'd go to the police. But really, I'd probably go searching for him like a maniac and be ready to murder the person who has him.

I'll do everything I could by posting fliers that my dog was stolen with reward money and such. And If i find the person who stole my dog. I will torture them. Im not just going to call 9-11 and be like "lol i found the person who stole my dog. come arrest him plz" I will most likely pluck some teeth out of his with a pair of pliers and crush his balls with them as well.. And maybe break some fingers of his as well. So in short: I will do everything I could to find the person and when I do, I will torture the sob

I had a dog taken once...here is how it went.

This lady had a man who was serving time...she also had a little girl. They lived in some housing behind my office. Well she decided that my Parti Poodle (yeah, I know) would be perfect for her daughter so one day she came into the yard where the moving trucks are and took her. Her "boyfriend" was due home from Wackenhut (I know that is a funny name for a pen) Prison that weekend.

Well never let it be said that good deeds go unrewarded. There is an older man that I used to let clean the yard for a few bucks every week. Anytime he needed a little something, he would come (not begging) and ask for work. Well it took him five days to get the courage to tell me (he was afraid of the boyfriend biker) that my dog was tied up inside thier house.

It took me all of 1 second to jump the fence and knock on the door. She came to the door with her boyfriend right behind her. The screen door was still locked so I asked her if my dog was with them...She says YES and He says that is where she is going to stay. Well, before the two of them knew what happenned, I had ripped the screen door off the hinges and was coming in...I could hear my dog crying in the back bedroom (she was tied up with fishing line to a heating radiator). The woman was hitting me with the phone (old style rotary with handset) and the boyfriend took a grab at me...that was the last he saw of his teeth in his mouth.

I got to the bedroom and snapped the fishing and grabbed my dog. The girl was still coming at me and tried to grab the dog from my grasp. I made my way to the front, stepped over the "lights out" boyfriend and got my dog back to the office. I loaded her up in my truck and took her to a location where she would not be found.

I returned to my office and called the police...of course they were already on the way so I waited at my desk. They came in demanding the dog and I told them there was no way they were getting thier hands on her. They told me that I was being charged with "Breaking and Entering", "Home Invasion", "Theft" and "Assault". I told them fine and held out my wrists...they didn't know what to do. Since they had not witnessed the event or caught me in the act or getting away, all they could do was write up a report and let the other party file a complaint.

Defended myself in court and won. Funny thing...the boyfriend had broken probation and was back behind bars (I just don't know how that happenned?) If I had decided to call the police after the couple knew I found the dog, I would have never seen her again I am sure. Sometimes you just have to do what you must...

Lived 21 good years ... RIP

WOW, this is a toughie. This is one of those questions that I PRAY I never have 2 find out how I would feel.

Ummm,ok, IF someone were 2 take a dog, after freaking out and taking some Zanax (just kiddin'). I would call my fiance (If he was not home), call my parents/my fiances parents (they both think of my dogs like Grandkids). I would plug my I-Phone into the computer and print out some pictures of my dog and make flyers. I would go 2 the police station(I don't think I would be able 2 wait for them 2 come 2 my house), then call every single shelter on my way 2 a shelter. Hand out flyers and give my info 2 these shelters in case someone brought my dog there. Then I would hang up flyers like everywhere (w/ a reward of coarse, a nice one). Go home, call the police station again, all the shelters again, look at my phone again 2 see if I had any new messages. Call my Vet (My Uncle) and let him know what happened). Knock on every single door in a 3 mile radius asking them and leaving a flyer on their front door. Oh I have them both microchip'd so I would have them check(I don't really know how the micro chip thing works but they both have it). Then once I got home I would ball up like a baby in my fiances arms and have a glass of wine.

If I lost my dogs or someone stole them I would blame myself, I know I would, even if it someone broke into my house and stole them. I would be a flipping mess. Buffy and Spanky are my babies, my kiddos. They are my heart. I would not be able 2 sleep b/c I would be thinking where they are and what it happening 2 them. I would be missing a piece of my heart.

-Now IF i found the person who stole my dog? and I got my dog back safe? Being honest, as long as I had her/him back that is all that would matter. I would hope they would get in trouble w/ the law of coarse. But the main thing would be that they were back home safe in my arms.
-If I had seen someone walking down the street w/ my dog? I would call the cops and follow the guy until the cops came, not saying anything until the police got there.
-IF something happened 2 my dog and then the person was found who did it? hopefully they would go 2 jail. I would call every news station until people knew what happened and /or until the cops did something 2 arrest this guy. I am not one 2 be physcial. 2 wrongs don't eaqual a right, as much as I would want 2 rip their balls off and make them eat it, it would not bring my dog(s) back. That is for the law 2 handle, and my lawyer.

Do u all remember that story someone here posted last week. SOmeone posted a thread from Craigslist or Petfinder. It was about a guy who had his APBT dog stolen then a few weeks later the dog was found down the road, mouth duct tape shut w/ bite marks all over it's body? this was a CGC, therapy dog that was this guys life. If something like that happened 2 me, I would be a bloody mess. My heart would be ripped out. I don't think I would ever be quite right again.

Hopefully I never have 2 face that though. We have a double sided saftey privacy fence and it locks from the inside. Other than that my dogs are always with me, on leash. They even come 2 works with me

OMG, thats awesome. I'm sitting here reading this and like "you go, kick his tushy, get your furkiddo"and clapping (im such a dork). It's like a Western. Your the good guy that goes in and saves his furkid and the mean, evil bad people get whats coming 2 them.

WHat the heck is wrong w/ some people. Do people really think they can go into someones house and just take their dog? REALLY? Don't people think about how someone is going 2 feel when their dog is missing?
I am so glad u got her back. She is a cutie, almost looks like she has a little mohawk going on there

I would go door to door, ask for him, and call his name when I got there to see if he came, I would scour every backyard in the area, put up fliers, call AC, and the HS, and then sink into a deep, deep, depression.

WOW DieselDawg....

If JC ever got stolen, I would report it to the police. Let my vet know. Put up flyers everywhere and never stop looking until I found him. And God help the people that stole my boy. It would not be frying pans that I'd be using this time.

Awe man, after reading DD's story, I wish I were a big tough muscle man!

I'm not even sure what I would do if my dog got stolen/lost...for sure flyers, call AC, vets offices, the HS....I'd put up a huge reward. There was a pug lost in Portland last spring and her reward was for about $1000 and she was returned...aparently that's the price for a safely returened dog

and if I found the person that stole me dog...oh man...I may not be tough or muscle-y but I'm pretty sure I would rip them to shreds...or perhaps just bite off a limb...

We've never had our dogs stolen, but behind my in laws house is a garage.. i was sitting on the last step watching the kids play.. 2 men pulled up in the alley and got out and opened the back gate.. one went to grab tinkerbell and I started yelling at them.. Of course, they ran (without her).. I called the police and called my husband at work. a few guys down the road told my husband where the men lived.. (few blocks away).. he went to talk to them.. of course they was drunk and wouldnt talk.. he basically told them if they attempted to steal our dog again.. hed hunt them down.. when the police arrived.. i told them what happened, described the car, described the men, told them where they lived.. they made a report but did nothing.. the officer told us one of the men was suspected in pitbull thefts locally, but since he didnt actually steal her... they couldnt do anything.. needless to say.. they havent been back..

Try my best to find her, offer a reward if need be. My dog is micro-chipped so if she got stolen and I knew where she was I could prove she was stolen.

Well, Tank was stolen. He wasn't even mine at the time but I loved him like he was sooooooooooo......... here's kinda how that went.

I got a phone call from his owner all in a dither saying Tank was ''lost''. He left him with his roomate for the weekend while he went away and the roomate said he got out the door and he tried to find him but couldn't. So of course we were all upset and started calling the pound, putting up posters, etc... and for week we searched non stop. So the owners little sister goes, "isn't it weird that the roomate, who is the one that lost him, doesn't seem that worried" and it all gave us pause. A guy that the roomate knew had offered $2500 for Tank but his owner refused and his little sister said maybe he sold Tank to this guy. Soooooooooo.......... we looked up on the internet this guys address and lo and behold we found it! lol They drove by this guys house and whose sitting outside tied up? TANK!

So I get on the horn and start calling people to see if anyone wants to take me out there to steal him back! The guy that had him is pretty ''connected'' and not many people were willing to come for fear of getting shot, but I have quite a few pretty mental friends so I rounded up a little posse and off we went.

So we get there just at night fall and place ourselves in the bushes to watch the house. Tank, being the loud mouth that he is starts beaking off so the guy comes out to check at what he's barking at, have a smoke and then went back into the house. We waited a LONG time until it seemed like buddy might have gone to bed. It was a pretty bushy secluded area but the neighbours were out next door partying, which actually kind of worked in our favor as buddy probably just thought he was barking at them. The neighbours were hidden by big trees and bushes so we couldn't see them nor could they see us or Tank.

Soooooo... after awhile of sitting there and trying to convince these guys the time was NOW for us to go and get him, and them being chickens, I finally got fed up, stood up and marched right over to the fence and hopped it. Tanks starts barking' this big scarey bark and I'm figuring he's tied up so I'll have to go right over to him and unhook him but I can't see a bloody thing so I'm just following his voice and hoping he recognizes my scent and doesn't bite me cause he's sounding pretty unimpressed with something coming towards him!

Meanwhile, I can hear the neighbours saying, ''must be a coyote that's getting him going!'' and later, after many tellings of this story, my nick name became Wile E. Coyote! Anyhoo.... so I get up to Tank, he clues in who I am and is jumping around all happy like a big idiot while I'm trying to find the chain hook up and he's not even hooked up! Big baby was scared I was the boogieman and was hiding back there barking! So I'm like, ''come on Tank, let's go for a car ride'' which he loves so he comes running with me. I'm trying to boost this 95 pound moron over the fence but he just keeps dancing around all happy so finally I just hop the fence and thankfully he follows me and runs beside me and hops right into the open door of the waiting car and we speed off into the night!

Funny thing is, I saw this guy later at a social event and he didn't even say a bloody word about Tank even though he knows it was me who stole him back. Just handed me a beer. I did have someone call the pound on me and I know in my gut it was them. Some ''tough guys'' ratting me out to the pound. Luckily animal control likes me and didn't even take the call seriously. Just called me to tell me it was made.

Having had a dog stolen, I'll tell you what we did:

1st - we called the police. A police report is very important and we also provided them with a picture of her and one of her tattoo.

2nd - we called AC. Now here's the thing with AC...you actually need to go down there and provide them with a picture of the dog, or else they really won't be paying any attention to you over the phone and will most probably tell you no despite whether or not the dog really ends up there. This advice was given to me directly from an AC officer's mouth. So we supplied them with the same pic of her & the tattoo along with a detailed description of what she looked like.

3rd - we made fliers that included a monetary reward, the headline STOLEN!, a detailed description of the dog, & a picture. And we put those fliers anywhere & everywhere! Put them up at vet clinics, pet supply stores, grocery stores...wherever you are allowed.

4th - we never gave up calling AC and the sheriff's office.

**I would go as far as 100 miles away in terms of AC places to contact.

I would react like DD!!! I would go absolutely nuts if I found the person that stole my dog. But finding them is the first key! That would be such a helpless feeling. I had a chip inserted in my apbt's skin so if she got loose and was turned into a shelter they scan her and return her to me or my vet. That would be a good start. However, it does not track where your dog is. But I hear they are close!
