Has anybody else have people verbally assault them because their dogs are in shape and healthy? I don't mean just criticizing since I'm sure most of us get this everyday, but I mean people that get in your face about it. How do you deal with this?
Not so much for their weight or condition, but I had some asswipe pull over his car and start harassing me because I had Marz pulling the dog food home in a wagon. We had just come to a steep hill, which the dogs LOVED as it was a challenge and they would lower their heads and dig right in, and he started yelling at me that I was abusing her blah blah blah. I went up and down him verbally so fast, he looked embarassed {probably thought this little chick with blue hair had no balls but obviously proved him wrong } and he shut his mouth and drove away. The coolest thing was he had a herd of kids in the back with their faces glued to the window in AWE and you could tell they thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I'm abusing MY dog, but NONE of his kids seemed to have seat belts on.

*sigh* And the hubby and I were talking about getting Ike a lil cart to pull home soda and milk from the corner store on our walks so we can just walk the dogs and not have to drive 5 blocks. I suppose backpacks are abuse now, too?

Never happened to me but then most people in my area don't recognize my APBT as a Pit of any type because she is within breed standard. Everyone here thinks an AM Bully is an APBT .
This. People are always asking me if 4-year-old (Am. Staff.) Jack is a pup, and how big will he be when he's full grown?

He's a little ribsy, and he always has been. But remember that the average dog owned by your average dog owner is overweight, being free-fed and over-treated.

Jack, "obviously" in desperate need of a good meal:

These stories are hilarious. That first guy would probably have seen Chinaman and accused him of being an underweight lab.

Well, in all honesty, when I seen a dog like that (not so much the one in the picture, but others with ribs showing), I thought they were underfed and always felt bad for them. then I came here and learned that that is the proper way they should be.. (not over fed, not under fed) and my view changed.. then I started worrying about my dogs because even though to me, they looked good, they were over weight and now I feel horrible for allowing them to get so.. they were unhappy and unhealthy.. but before hand, I thought differant.. since we started getting them the way they should be, I can see a differance in their attitude and in play times.. they can play longer and harder and the smiles on their faces, is all I needed to see to see that I was wrong

He's beautiful! He looks like he could be a littermate to my brothers dog, Sid!

Weird, I don't think anyone has ever brought up how "small" Lucy is. But then again, when I take Lucy somewhere, I usually take Ethel, so no matter what Lucy is tiny in comparison.

Every time I hear that Lucy's too skinny though, I just laugh. If they only knew how much I blow on her food, they'd "underfeed" her too.

I havent had the problem....yet! I like to see a little rib on a dog so i have always kept my dogs in shape! I wonder what people will say when i condition Cleo in the future?? You know most people think dogs are underweight and unhealthy when it comes to a dog that is conditioned, but i wish they could get through their heads that its actually better for them and more healthy that way!!

The whole ribs thing is just a sign of how prone to obesity Americans are.
A well-muscled dog scares most people. They think chunky for all species is safe and comforting.
Ya kno, until they see Gisel Bundchen (sp) and then all other women are measly pigs.

fucking contradictory and irritating.

When I see "chunky" (HUGE) Americans, I'm not comforted, I'm sickened and remind myself to leave the house less. Especially when said people have their arms filled with Doritos, and are buying their poor fat child a crap load of candy. I shudder to think of what their poor dogs look like.

Sorry, I needed to have a fat rant.

I am not a slender person since my son was born. I miss my body. But I do agree about people and their dogs having some kind of problem with the fit dogs of others. Even some vets are in on the act now.

What really cheeses me is people buying groceries with Food Stamps and their cart is full of Doritos, Kool Aid, Chocolate Milk, cookies, microwave meals and their kids weigh a collective ton.

Everyone has an opinion and they loooove to share it. I've actually been asked if I starved my dog (my last dobe) because I was anorexic. The person was serious.

That might be a valid concern.

It would be if I was anorexic and not just thin because I work out and don't eat crap.

Ugghh.... I hate that. I always get ''skinny'' comments about myself, people telling me I need to eat. I eat all organic, work out, walk EVERYWHERE. It's called BEING IN SHAPE! When my sons friend comes and spends time at my house for a few days, he can barely walk with us a fraction of our usual walks and won't eat our food so his mum has to bring him fruitloops and hotdogs. It's sad. This kid has literally had multiple broken bones from NOTHING. He jumped off one of the dog kennels when he was little at my house and broke his leg! Literally three feet off of the ground. I swear it's a serious lack of nutrition.
