Buddy sits normally... not GG...
GG does more of a squat... she is in the correct sitting position but her butt never touches the ground, it is always just up off the ground... it might be just a 1/4 of an inch but it does not touch...
Ellis sits the same way. His butt never touches the ground.

I don't care how he sits, as long as he sits when I ask him to

I guess I should look at it that way Ganja.. He's doing great on it.. (the sitting when told to) and I should just be happy with that..

Default how do your dogs sit?
Bandit is driving me nuts with the way he sits.. (on his hip, not his bum)..I've tried correcting him (just placing him on his bum and only treating when he sits like that.), but none the less - he sits on his hip. when he lays down, he goes into a side lay (on his side - not his belly) and its because he sits on his hip lol.. am I correcting him right?

I've heard that dogs that sit like that could have hip problems (precursor to hip dysplasia).
Could be nothing, he could just sit like that.

Bella sits, what I call, "side saddle". I don't know if it means problems down the road, I sure hope not, but I guess only time will tell. The vet has checked her legs, knees and I think hips with xrays. Maybe I need to call and ask them about that..... I've always thought it was just goofy Bella, being Bella. I think I will check into it though.

My Jake always does that, but I chalk it up to his age (he's 12, and he USED to do it). It's just more comfortable for him. The speed in getting up into a standing position after sitting on his hip or sitting perfectly is about the same (meaning, slowly), so I don't bother about it.

Personally, we all like playing with his "floppy" knee, when it's hanging out.

Goren sits on his bum...but if he is coming up from a down he will normally sit on his hip, I think it has to do with the surface, the laziness of the dog (if Goren is hyped up he will only sit on his but even from a down) my old keeshound sat on his hip and never had hip issues, so I do not see any genetic things with it from that standpoint, but that is only one dog so who knows really.

Rita sits on her butt, Ike does the hip thing sometimes. I always attributed it to a lazy lean when he's particularly relaxed or tired. Vet says his hips are fine.

Odin does the same thing. WHen he's tired, he sits sideways. I've also seen him prop himself up on the couch likea person, so his front paws are just kind of hanging out while he's sitting up.

Sug sits like people too. She started doing it when she broke her ankle last summer since she couldn't sit on it, and never really stopped. I've asked the vet about it, and she never seemed all that concerned.

Gypsy is a lazy sitter, but I think she sits like that due to HD and blown knees.

That's how Gidget sits. Her rear end is never on the ground, but hovering/balancing right above it. She doesn't like cold or hard surfaces............priss.

The sitting on their side position is what I call "sloppy sit." Grimm will do it when he's tired/playing, but otherwise he sits normally - no HD as his OFA prelims came back as "good."

that makes sense... with his bum having them sores so severe, i bet thats what did it.. he couldnt sit on his bum for the longest so he must have learned to sit on his hip..

Bandit is still a pup they sit however they want but as long as the butt hits the ground I praise or reward. Later on I teach a formal sit if I feel it's needed for something. Right now Puck seems to sit really well unless he's on the wooded floor then he starts to slide into puppy splits.
