but dont worry the world is so full of stupid people you will be sure to get an even more ridiculous and surprising question about your dog soon!http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png

LOL, that question made my day and so did everyone's comments http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png. People are now breeding for most chest size, head size, rear size, neck size, etc. I think pretty soon people will be breeding for teeth size :P Soon we'll have saber toothed pitbulls LOL.

My boy's teeth resemble the size of the dog's teeth in your avatar.

Assunkkensatt 09-06-2010 01:56 AM

Rear size? Fantastic!

WGfg4CCZ 09-06-2010 02:01 AM

Never had anyone ask me that luckily.

Probably just the new selling ploy.

hernkingAnank 09-06-2010 02:11 AM

Well they are. It just didn't sound right so I wasn't going to say anything.

Assunkkensatt 09-06-2010 02:22 AM

We believe you, you don't have to defend your... dog's teeth size....

voksveta 09-06-2010 02:47 AM

Hahaha you people are crazy!

My God, PLEASE dont give anyone ideas to start breeding sabor toothed pit bulls! They would definately be banned from the whole dang WORLD lol!

Assunkkensatt 09-06-2010 02:54 AM

They would also be hard to hug. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

People talk about tooth size all the time. There's even a certain lingo for them. I have heard teeth called K9s, fangs, hangers, tusks & cutters. And yes, certain sizes of teeth run in bloodlines. For example, Zebo dogs & Eli dogs are known for big teeth, but any dog can have them.

Here are 2 that have some big ole teeth:

Double Blade, a Frisco bred dog:

Possibly Boyles bred. Beautiful dog, BIG teeth!

Hope this helps.

Wow this dog doesn't even look real, thought it was some scary kind of garden statue lol!

Great I am looking at Eli lines, I'm so glad I'll be able to show people who ask that I have a 'real' APBT. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/cool.png

voksveta 09-06-2010 03:38 AM

The first dog looks like a hillbilly, he's been chewin too much tobacco LOL

The second dog has nice dentures, though I'm told old timers prefer dog's with long, thin canines that were point rather than thick. Apparently the thin canines were better for stabbing while thicker canines functioned like molars, not ideal for piercing.

alskdjreyfd 09-06-2010 04:55 AM

LOL I have a friend that thinks Jada is not a pitbull because she does not have this huge head and her front legs are not a foot apart...LOL O-well...now it is their teeth

HitAttetlyTek 09-06-2010 05:31 AM

I had one woman tell me that on pit bulls, the canines are straight, whereas they're curved on am staffs. and in her mind, that was the only way to tell the difference. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/confused.png

Apparently the thin canines were better for stabbing while thicker canines functioned like molars, not ideal for piercing. Thicker teeth would be less likely to break. Several dogs had this happen and this left the dog at a SERIOUS disadvantage. I've also heard of some people "sharpening" up the teeth. Not sure how likely they could get away with that. Chances are it speaks volumes for the ability of the dogs and the man.

never had anyone ask me about teeth, but my bull terriers teeth are definitely all around bigger than my 70 pound pit bull mix, for there size, they have big ass teeth.

I have never heard this. I knew a Watchdog cross that had what I called "cat teeth" - long, thin pointed canines like a cat's. She put many a dog who crossed her in their grave (accidents of course). BUT ... thick canines work too. In WSK's interview with the Mtn. Man, Mtn. Man said Zebo had canines that were "long & thick as my little finger to the second joint." That had to be pretty long & thick, considering it was a man's hand he was comparing his teeth to. Yet Zebo was a 7xw, his first 4 of which were not only kills, but quick kills. It was rumored Zebo killed Greaser as well. If that were true, it would make him a 7xw with 5 of them being kills. So thick cutters can get the job done just as well! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png

I personally don't think a dog men of either yesteryear or today care what kind of hardware a dog has, just so long as it knows how to properly use them!

Blessings ...

Definitely, I believe dogmen of yesteryear only cared for gameness. Though I suppose both types of hardware had its advantages lol. The long, thin cat teeth would pierce and shred the muscles and skin off the bones while the thick teeth would crush the bones.

yeah, dogmen of yesteryear used to sharpen their dog's teeth, but only the dog's with the thick teeth. They did it by putting their dog on anesthesia and by using dental tools, they would file down the teeth into points. Their dogs would go in with razor blades.

Where in the world did you hear this?? PM if needed.

I have only heard of shady dog men filing teeth & it wasn't an advantage. All filing does is take off enamel, thus making the teeth thinner, weaker & more prone to break.

As for filing them into "points," all dogs' teeth come to points. Even the thick ones. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Assunkkensatt 10-05-2010 08:33 PM

The only time I heard of filing was in that movie Off the Chain about pit bulls and dog fighting but it was about backyard fights not historical ones.
