ive never heard this question before..my great dane/staffy mix has huge teeth compared to my pit(his are a little over an inch)..but everyone is more scared of my pithttp://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rofl.gif
but dont worry the world is so full of stupid people you will be sure to get an even more ridiculous and surprising question about your dog soon!http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png |
LOL, that question made my day and so did everyone's comments http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png. People are now breeding for most chest size, head size, rear size, neck size, etc. I think pretty soon people will be breeding for teeth size :P Soon we'll have saber toothed pitbulls LOL.

Rear size? Fantastic!
|
Never had anyone ask me that luckily.
Probably just the new selling ploy. |
Well they are. It just didn't sound right so I wasn't going to say anything.
|
We believe you, you don't have to defend your... dog's teeth size....
|
Hahaha you people are crazy!
My God, PLEASE dont give anyone ideas to start breeding sabor toothed pit bulls! They would definately be banned from the whole dang WORLD lol! |
They would also be hard to hug. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

People talk about tooth size all the time. There's even a certain lingo for them. I have heard teeth called K9s, fangs, hangers, tusks & cutters. And yes, certain sizes of teeth run in bloodlines. For example, Zebo dogs & Eli dogs are known for big teeth, but any dog can have them.
Here are 2 that have some big ole teeth: Double Blade, a Frisco bred dog: http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/pictures/26066.jpg Possibly Boyles bred. Beautiful dog, BIG teeth! http://www.game-dog.com/forums/attac...1&d=1266357284 Hope this helps. Blessings ... http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png |

The second dog has nice dentures, though I'm told old timers prefer dog's with long, thin canines that were point rather than thick. Apparently the thin canines were better for stabbing while thicker canines functioned like molars, not ideal for piercing. |
LOL I have a friend that thinks Jada is not a pitbull because she does not have this huge head and her front legs are not a foot apart...LOL O-well...now it is their teeth
|
I had one woman tell me that on pit bulls, the canines are straight, whereas they're curved on am staffs. and in her mind, that was the only way to tell the difference. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/confused.png

though I'm told old timers prefer dog's with long, thin canines that were point rather than thick. Apparently the thin canines were better for stabbing while thicker canines functioned like molars, not ideal for piercing. Thicker teeth would be less likely to break. Several dogs had this happen and this left the dog at a SERIOUS disadvantage. I've also heard of some people "sharpening" up the teeth. Not sure how likely they could get away with that. Chances are it speaks volumes for the ability of the dogs and the man.

never had anyone ask me about teeth, but my bull terriers teeth are definitely all around bigger than my 70 pound pit bull mix, for there size, they have big ass teeth.

I personally don't think a dog men of either yesteryear or today care what kind of hardware a dog has, just so long as it knows how to properly use them! Blessings ... |

I have only heard of shady dog men filing teeth & it wasn't an advantage. All filing does is take off enamel, thus making the teeth thinner, weaker & more prone to break. As for filing them into "points," all dogs' teeth come to points. Even the thick ones. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif Blessings ... |
The only time I heard of filing was in that movie Off the Chain about pit bulls and dog fighting but it was about backyard fights not historical ones.
