Default Anyone who owns same sex APBTs...
I know that having same sex APBTs can be difficult to say the least. Tell me what you think. There is this male APBT mix that has been up for adoption for a year. No one seems to want him, I want him, but I already have a male. I am trying to figure out the pros and cons. I'm wondering if I can handle it. I'm not sure... but I just want this guy to get a home

Here he is... maybe someone on here might even want him if I can't take him!

If you get him, just be prepared to keep him and any other dog you have separate in the future, and as always never unsupervised play.

It says he has been trained to guard, and that he still guards some things so he would not be good with children. Have you been in contact with the rescue to find out more specifics on this behavior? It would make me very leery.

As for having 2 males, it obviously is a lot more work. This guy is already an adult, so you should be able to find out what his general dog tolerance levels are. I've had 3 males (2 of whom were intact) for a several months, when watching dogs for a family member. For me, it was a TON of work to keep everyone happy and safe, but the dogs were worth it.

i agree with Victoria. and i also agree with CHJ.
Milo is a 2 to 3 year old American Stafforshire Terrier. Milo has been nicknamed Chunky Monkey since he loves to eat and wasn't able to exercise while he was sick with heartworm and going through treatment. He is a little short guy, apprx 45 to 50 lbs and very cute! He has completed two obedience classes and has earned his CGC!!! (Canine Good Citizen awarded by the AKC). He was the teacher's favorite in class and she called him winnie the pooh due to his little stocky looks! He's come a long way and is really a great dog! He likes to play for a while then hang out on the couch and get belly rubs or chew a bone. He's a pretty mellow little guy, who can also be a real goofball!!! Unfortunately Milo was heartworm positive and has gone through treatment – this poor kid just couldn’t catch a break, but he's been healthy for several months now so it seems it is all behind him! We are still working on training and socializing him and he’s doing great. He had a rough start in life and was very neglected, and trained to guard, so he needs an experienced pit bull owner, so he can continue to learn to be a family pet - but he is learning how great it is to be around people and loves getting belly rubs. He takes treats very gently, and will sit and wait for his food until you tell him it’s ok to have it. He loves to give kisses too! Poor Milo has been in the rescue waiting for his home for almost a year now. Won't you please consider giving him a chance? If you are interested in Milo, please fill out an adoption application. He is a playful little guy! Due to his past, a home without young children is best since he may guard a few things although he's getting much better with this as well! You can email us for an application or go to our website to download one at Wiggle Butts Bully Rescue, Inc - Home

Chunky Monkey Milo is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Yeah the guarding did worry me... and in a few years we are going to have children... I guess I just feel sorry for him... I wish someone wanted him. If I didn't have Bubba I think I'd have him already... I just don't know if I can really handle more than 1 male at this point in my life... sigh... but maybe I can help find someone who will be able to take him.

Some males do get along just fine...

And, I wonder if someone "taught" him to guard or if he just was left on a chain to bark? Maybe some clarification would be helpful. Some people get creative. See what the facts are?

He's adorable. My male gets along great with other males but is touchy with bossy females.

If you want to do some driving, I'll meet you half-way and bring him home! He's adorable! Too bad I have so many already!

I'm moving at the end of this month... so I'm not making any choices til then. I'll own my own home with a fenced yard... then I think I'll be equiped to at least give him a try. I wouldn't mind a drive either... where are you located?

Northwest Iowa! But I need another dog like I need a divorce... And the two could be related!

If he was up here, I would have gone to see him already. I avoid petfinder like the plague.

Lol... my fiance tells me to quit looking at least til I'm moved. Between the two of us we would own 10 of them if we had the time, space, and money. Good thing I have a pretty level head. I do want one more... but I want it to be the right one for me, and the right one for Bubba. If he is still up once I'm moved... I'm going to see what I can do.

He is adorable! I think if you are prepared and able to keep them separate if they don't get along, then go for it.

That is what I'm thinking Tiffany. I have been looking at him pretty much as long as he has been posted... I kept thinking someone would take him... yet he is still there... maybe it's a sign. Lol! Or maybe I'm just looking for a sign cause I want him.

No, it's most definately a sign! Go get your dog already. He's been waiting a long time.

Well... if he is still there when I'm all moved I'll take that as a sign. I'm thinking he will be, if he isn't, that is God telling me he wasn't the dog for me.

Just to add... my girl Nyx was ''taught'' to protect along with a host of other issues with her past due to pure stupidity on her first owners part. We actually were very successful in teaching her that ''guarding'' is not what we wanted out of her, so if whatever he is doing is ACTUALLY a taught behavior like they say, it can be ''untaught''.

I personally would not do it... He's not in danger of dying, they are good to their dogs, he's not rotting in a kennel 24/7... And feeling sorry is a bad, bad reason to get a dog. Not to mention his questionable temperament, if they say no kids and 'guard' training. But do inquire with a hundred questions if you're interesting, really get to know who he is.

I would go with a female, it does lessen the chances of having to permanently separate.
Just as an example of the lovely ladies available as well.
Adopt a Staffordshire Bull Terrier: Nelly: Petfinder
Adopt a Pit Bull Terrier: Abigail: Petfinder

I would just try to make life easier

I know... isn't he! I just doubt that I could handle two males... especially if he has issues. I wish I knew someone who had no other dogs and had time for him.
