Sick of the blue dog insanity
So I am sure you all noticed I was gone for about a week http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png I was in california with some girl friends...anyway I hated LA (no offense to california people) before thanks to the time I lived there, but I thought I would give it a second try. 90% of the dogs I saw were blue poorly bred hot messes! I in fact saw two people walking up and down the street with a "breeding pair" both of which were deformed.. trying to sell puppies to anyone who would look!!!!! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/madwife.gif I also saw about 5 blue puppies within the same 5 minutes. Maybe it is a California thing, I have never seen that many blue dogs in total around Boston as I saw on that 30 minute walk.

I own two blue bullies. And I personally love the color & the dogs. BUT, i see where youre coming from. people who bred blues just for the money & not for the dogs. i think its bull. (no pun intended) They do not care about the dogs just getting some money off of them. It's sad & disgusting. As long as its done right & it is a reputable breeder i do not mind. but all of these blue mutants now a days are disgusting.

People that are too lazy to get out and get a job, they are willing to do a quick fix, tax free way to make a quick buck at the expense of the poor dogs... I think this is the problem, regardless of the breed or color. These people aren't out there for the betterment of their breed, they are out there for the betterment of their wallets. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/mad.png

The blue dog fad will eventually fade. First it was the red/red nosed dogs and then the all white dogs. Now it's blue. These fads will all go away as those owning them care only for the money and ego and not for the dogs themselves. As soon as buying interest wanes, so will the fad.

I have noticed quit a few blue dogs around Tampa. My neighbor down the street from me also has a breeding pair http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/mad.png I used to see him out walking them and then sure enough he soon had a sign in his yard for blue pit bull puppies. He even asked me if I was interested in one when he saw me walking my dogs one day. He sort of scares me so I didn't say anything to him about breeding the dogs but I stuck some spay neuter info in his mailbox one day when nobody was looking http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I own a blue and i LOVE the color. Here in Alabama there are a pretty good number of them, but it's about how you described in LA......POORLY BRED!! It's pathetic. Although there are a few good lookin dogs i've seen.

The first dog we had was a pit and when he died it was so painful that we went many years without a dog. I finally talked my husband into it and I began looking for a puppy. Honestly, I did not want a pound puppy because I wanted to interact with the parents of my dog, etc. I was so worried about inbreeding, etc. During my search I was attracted to the cute factor of the blue pups but I quickly noticed that the great majority of the people into them or selling them were not my crowd. Also, I did not like the exaggerated features and was very concerned what they were mixed with and future health issues. Then, the price was a huge factor. As luck would have it, I happened upon a couple out in the country that had a litter of 9 and 3 of the pups just happened to be blue and white so I got my baby blue after all. It’s so funny because I was so particular and took months finding just the right puppy. Her tail had been docked (yes docked at birth just as our very first one had been) and her dew claws had been removed, etc. She was everything I wanted. Now I have two dogs…the chosen one as my vet calls her and who is completely modified (car speak) and our pound baby who we rescued and factory original and who is everything I did not want but turns out I love her just as much! Though I wish her tail was docked and so do my walls! LOL

it's like that in areas of Louisiana, too. Alot in NO and BR. It's really sad to see the poor babies, they never asked to be born like that. It's definitely a status type thing here for some.
Just had to deal with some crazy person who thought they were a 'member' of our group preaching about how their "pure bred blue pit" boosted their ego. it was disgusting. |
There aren't too many blue dogs around here. Only teenagers really like them. You see a lot of red dogs here.

Where in LA were you walking? It's a huge city and depending on your whereabouts, you could see blue pits, blue Vettes, blue Crips and/or blue CHPs.

I breed and show pedigreed cats. My mentors always insisted on this, "build the barn and THEN you paint it." It was seven years of careful breeding and study for health, conformation and temperament before I chose to do a litter for my favorite color. So I don't think an ethical breeder will ever breed for colour unless a certain color is demanded by the breed standard or if they've been at it for so long that they know the genetics behind their choice.

A poorly bred dog is an eye sore no matter the color, lot of bad ones out there its too bad.
