i have been looking at tons of threads talking about game bred apbts and many different opinions and i want to clear up my outlook on this. ok as for me im fairly new to this forum so my input may not matter one way or the other. i have owned a few apbts and i love them to death the breed is amazing. but could i say i have a game breed apbt? idk it seems to me it depends on what game bred means. as for game bred as far as bloodlines from the dogmen then i would say my dogs are probly not game bred. how would you define game? could you really say that it would have to be measured in a pit? game from what i have picked up is when a pit is under extreme circumstanes and its willingness to finish what has been started with its drive and determination. but those odds wouldn't have to be against another dog would they? imho i dont believe its all about bloodlines and matches. i dont think how people used to match dogs are wrong as i have never done so but think that the dogs were great and treated good. but i do believe it is all in what a pit is game for as to what makes it a game dog or not.

For traditional historical purposes, I would think that game-bred would mean a dog whose parents are both proven winners in the box. I would also say a game APBT is a dog who has proven himself in the box with wins. In 2009 America you cannot determine the above 2 without breaking laws. The only way to actually have a game-bred or game APBT is to get one from an area of the world where matching is legal, or more specifically, not illegal.

or at least several proven dogs in the first four generations the dog would have to be tested to be proven game. but game bred juss means you got proven winners and producers throughout the first four gens (like NC stated) you can have a game-bred dog and it still be a cur, it doesnt really work the other way around! |

Back to the OP they are asking "game" versus "game bred" and I think it may be helpful to explain the difference.
Which is from what I understand, "game" describes a dog that had been "proven game" (in other words fought and met a standard of "gameness" as part of that), and "game bred" means the offspring of (one or more, depending on who you ask) of the above said "game" dogs. |

People want game/game-bred dogs for the same reasons people want Porsches or Ferraris. They might obey the traffic laws but they feel good knowing how fast their cars really can go if need be. Maybe Scottie will suddenly beam them down to the Autobahn, for example. Then gosh you wouldn't want to be stuck there with a clunker that could only do 120 MPH. Totally freaking embarrassing, that would be. (Maybe even dangerous!) Ha ha. |
