Considering adding second pitbull to family

Can someone help me with this decision making process. I have a 7mo old pitbull / mix, and I'd like to bring one more pitbull into the family.

My current dog is a female, and have the opportunity to bring in a male.

Is this advisable? I have been reading mixed reviews on whether or not two pitbulls should live together. Assuming it is alright, what are the necessary steps to ensure it is as smooth as possible.

Thanks for any help.

If you decide to go ahead with this, I'd recommend fostering a male from a reputable APBT rescue.

That way, you can see if you're comfortable with the two dog life style.

In any case, you have to prepared that two dogs, particularly those of the bully type, may not get along.

Even if they do, the cardinal, asbolute rule is to never leave the two alone together when you can not supervise - even if they appear to 'love' each other. And I do mean not even for five minutes.

I second Madeleine's suggestion...

You stand a better chance of a male and female getting along versus two males or two females.

Even if you fostered a male first, there is no guarantee your female would get along with a different male.
Some dogs just don't like each other.

When we decided to get a second dog, we found a family who was looking to rehome their dog and was willing to let us take it and try it out before we commited. It didn't work out that time, so we tried again and found the perfect pup, Biff.
