Hey guys,
A few days ago I posted a thread about my dogs being in heat. Today is day 4 after she stopped bleeding, can i release my male dalmation and let him loose now or can they hook up and my bitch still get pregnant? So basically my question is, is it safe to let the male dog loose? Thanks |

The answer is NO. The common rule is 3-4 week heat cycle. She is in the most critical time. The bright red bleeding is the beginning period. The week or so following bright red bleeding is when they are ready for breeding. IMO, keep her away from males for another week to 10 days. You should consider spaying her since you are not breeding her.

I agree if you're not going to breed her concider having her spayed. I had always owned male dogs and had no idea about the heat cycle. when my rottie went into heat i had no idea what was going on. things were bleeding and swelling, i was freaked and my wife was laughing her head off at me. she was spayed soon after. thank goodness i don't have any carpet in my house.
