Went fishing at a lake a few km down the road, had a most enjoyable couple of hours. Amazed at how many bandicoots there must be, diggings everywhere. Also saw a young seal swimming around, good sign 'coz lake has been closed for years until recent rains. |

Scutithingy, hmm I told myself I would have to remember that so's I could be a smarty pants next time someone complains about the thing with zillions of legs in the bath.
Scutigeromorph Scutigeromorph Scutigeromorph I like em, always rescue them from the bath, then zip they're gone. I tell people that they (people) shouldn't complain about other pests if they squish them (scutigermorphs) because they are fierce predators of all sorts of horrid pests. |
Aah got my avatar picture working.
Scutigeromorph anyone know what that means? morph means change probably, but scuti gero???? and what does the scuti gero morph into???? maybe I should be afraid very very afraid. |

I'm supposed to be working to a tight deadline, so I should click on the little x in the corner of the screen.
I guess this place will settle in properly once the other forums are tipped into the bin. |
Good Afternoon http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.png
I too keep popping in to see how it's all going but also in doing so I'm familiarising myself with this format and it's many features. Nice to see familiar faces (names) about. Oh and speaking of a book titled Spineless, I have a copy http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.png or should I say now that a certain young man is moving his belongings in, I have aquired a copy by association. I do look forward to having a read http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cool.png |

I'm actually coming around to the new format. I'm thinking I might jump before the ship sinks. I'd like to know the date and time the old forum is due to be switched off. I'd like to be there for the final hurrah. |
Tuross fledges most endangered little terns this season
22 Mar, 2012 11:00 AM THE NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) thanks volunteers and staff for their work protecting endangered shorebirds like little terns on the Far South Coast this breeding season. NPWS Shorebird Recovery Coordinator for the Far South Coast Jo Lane says the recent little tern breeding season has been one of the most successful in the 13 year history of the program. “This year 171 little terns, or Sternula albifrons, were added to the population which is still classified as endangered but should strengthen markedly from this gain,” Ms Lane said. “The colony at Tuross has claimed the title of the largest and most successful little tern breeding colony in NSW for this season. “This season little terns used only two sites on the Far South Coast, the South Tuross Sandspit and Mogareeka near Tathra, fledging 120 young from 114 nests at Tathra and 51 birds from 63 nests at Mogareeka. “This is a wonderful result considering last season there were only 13 nests which produced 14 fledglings at Tuross. “These birds only weigh about 50 grams yet they migrate from the northern hemisphere each summer to breed on the coast of Australia. “Each season is so unpredictable and little terns encounter disturbance by humans and dogs, are preyed upon by foxes, ravens and seagulls, and face natural challenges such as wild weather and tidal inundation during king tides. “We erect fences and signs at the beginning of the season to protect colonies from dogs and other dangers and volunteers spend many hours monitoring shorebird colonies and talking to visitors about the birds. “The volunteers are an integral part of the Shorebird Recovery Program as they are extra eyes and ears and they do a fantastic job of raising awareness in the community about endangered shorebirds,” Ms Lane said. The NPWS Shorebird Recovery Program also monitors and protects pied oystercatchers, sooty oystercatchers and hooded plovers. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.png People just waiting until they have something to contribute isn't quite the same as lurking, meaning that to me lurking is intentionally just keeping track of others and intending not to respond. Not sure I'd want to have to defend that definiton though http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.png |
