It's just as well for poor Jose. He was technically finished after that disastrous Davis Cup match a few year back. Wish him luck!

Gonzalez will retire after Miami

ViagraFeller 02-21-2012 06:57 PM

Ohhhhhh. I thought this was about TATers retiring from work.

How about players who wimp out withdraw from Dubs but compete in Singles at the same tourney? Seems very unfair to the partners who then lose out on that appearance money ---

Does Capriati know she hasn't retired yet? Anyone know if she's doing anything related to tennis?

Are you talking about Kirilenko? If so, she pulled out of singles too.

You likely already know this, but just in case... there are tangible benefits including health coverage that those who do not officially retire can maintain for quite some time. I think there was a column about it but I can't seem to locate it. If I recall correctly there were quite a few big names that are still not officially retired yet (Mauresmo, Pierce, etc, etc... I can't really recall but I think they were mentioned among others). Primarily so they can maintain those benefits and coverage.

I have a guy on my floor at the work who does the same. Won't retire simply because of health benefits.

Vika out of Dubai - Casey Dellacqua is playing right now in Vika's spot, vs Julia Goerges --
