Well, Obama is a lightweight. Ironically, I know no small number of people that made Aliyah from the States who served in the American military proudly and bravely (there are several just in the company I work in) and I also know other people who made aliyah from the States who pay more taxes to America then most Americans living in the States do. Did Obama ever serve in the American military? What has he ever done for America other than lie about his identity to fool people into electing him president? Obama is about the last one who has the right to decide who can keep their citizenship and who can't.

I don't know. He is going to have his hands full with this Birther movement stuff. I used to think it was just a small group of people who believed this stuff, but with every poll there are more and more people doubting he is a natural born citizen. The Democrats are laughing these people away but I think the movement is really growing and he's going to have to make a statement about it. If he tries to slip in something about getting rid of dual citizenship then this Birther thing is going to be at the forefront.

More like dual citizens will find out several years down the road that there was an expiration date nobody informed them of. Well, those of us who are dual citizens file taxes with the IRS every year, just like any American citizen, so the furthest away that expiration date could be would be less than a year ago. Not to mention those of us married with kids (who also have American citizenship) who always seem to have one passport or another to renew. It would be kind of hard to slip a so-called "expiration date" past us.

I'm afraid that's something you should be prepared for. What if the US decides to consider all residents of the West Bank holding US passports as "refugees" or stateless people? What if the State Dept. calls for an evacuation of all disputed territories and offers one way flights "home" to the US or forfeit their US citizenship? Considering "settlers" with an American accent make up about 10-12% of the "settler" population, this would hardly make a dent as far as an "incentive" for Israel to "evacuate" the "disputed territories".
At any rate, I also don't claim to tell the future nor that the scenario you described is not possible, but here is the thing: If Obama starts doing away with dual citizenship for American/Israelis I my advice to ALL Jews in America would be to make aliyah IMMEDIATELY. Because, then ALL American Jews' loyalty to America will be questioned. What starts out with American Jews who are living in and/or have Israeli citizenship will end with ALL American Jews. |

Aren't we at that point already? However, I see a good chance with Obama of even this no longer being a way out. This might sound like an exaggeration, but I am using it to make a point. For the Jews in Germany, NOTHING helped- zionist, anti-zionist, everything in between, atheist, Haredi, everything in between, heck even converting to Christianity did not save you. I would seriously look into aliyah. However, the day dual citizenship is taken away, don't look into it. JUST DO IT!!!! |

The US has multi-citizenship treaties with scores of countries. Many Americans already qualify for Irish, Greek, British, Canadian, Mexican, French, Indian, Iranian dual citizenship as just a small example. I have at various times myself traveled on Irish and South African passports.
