Congressional Aide pleads guilty to soliciting bribes

Well, thats one democrat down. Guess its not just republicans as the media would have you believe. Im assuming this aide and Jefferson will be going to jail if this is true.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A former congressional aide pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery and aiding and abetting the solicitation of bribes by a member of Congress.

Brett Pfeffer , a former aide to Rep. William Jefferson , D-La., entered his plea deal in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va. Pfeffer faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced March 31 and a fine of up to $500,000.

"Today this defendant admitted to a crime which, at its core, is a bribery scheme involving a public official," said Assistant Attorney General Alice Fisher of the Criminal Division. "Such schemes deprive citizens of the integrity and honest services expected of our government. The Justice Department will aggressively investigate and prosecute these illegal schemes." http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,181333,00.html

The US media appears to be doing their very best to suggest that the Abramoff scandal is entirely a bi-partisan affair. The NYTimes has attempted to smear Harry Reid with a wide brush here.

Certainly Jefferson has been previously named as the only notable Democrat likely to go down under the Abramoff 'plea'.

Still looks like they are aiming for higher fish.

All depends on whether Texas locks him up before the Feds get their shot.
