Bobby Kennedy
Hi all, I’m a huge fan of the intricacies of US politics, and primarily joined this Forum so as to learn more about the ins-and-outs via peoples views. I’m also a huge fan of the late Bobby Kennedy, and being a non-American, was just curious as to what others thought of him?

Hello, O huge fan of US politics. You'll probably live to regret it.
Regarding Bobby Kennedy. While it happened 40 years ago, it was an open dynasty in the making. Bobby being appointed US Attorney General was the same as if George Bush appointed his brother Jeb to be Attorney General today. The Kennedys thought they were the equivalent of American Royalty. Any actions like that, if attempted today, would be met with howls that wouldn't quit. Was it good or bad? Depends on your point of view. We can "What if" until the end of time and get nowhere. My main problem with the Kennedys, is that they think they are above the average American, and that is not what America is supposed to be about. I think the downfall of the Kennedys was Teddy at Chappaquiddick. He got away with murder, or at least manslaughter, and the country has never forgiven him of that. He has tainted the Kennedy name. As far as Bobby goes, I think his overly-righteous chasing of organized crime may have been what led to his and his brother executions. The pragmatic solution would have been to take small steps, but the Kennedy ego dictated that he move boldly and openly, therefore guaranteeing his demise. Ask away. I rarely have no opinion on a subject. http://www.uspoliticsonline.net/imag...es/biggrin.gif |

The funny thing, is you look at John and Booby's views, tax cuts to stimulate the economy, law-and-order, etc, they would be quite staunch Conservatives in today's world.

Could you imagine the vilification Barry Goldwater would endure today? Remember AuH²O?

I have NO idea. I just find it somewhat revealing that what used to be liberal is now conservative, and today's liberals are yesterday's Socialists and Communists. I AM really over all the college kids that are so full of themselves, thinking they know it all and are so much smarter than everyone else. If they only knew how gullible and stupid they really are.

Your analysis is right on, with my only argument being that you wouldn't need to go back to the 60's. Many so-called "conservatives" today bear little resemblance to conservatives of just 20 years ago. |
There's a saying " The only good Kennedy is a Dead Kennedy." I'm certainly no Kennedy fan, IMO, Pappa Joe made his money bootlegging and his sons spent his fortune chasing skirts and drinking Daddy's Scotch, but I think that RFK and JFK's assassinations were sad days for America.

Right on guys. It's the impatience of youth, although we waited 'til one was 30 before we wouldn't trust them.
The Kennedys are a spoiled rotten rich family. All of their misfortunes have been brought on by themselves, one way or another. They're kind of like a slow motion train wreck. If, and that's a big if, we ever actually know what happened to cause assasinations, I'd put money that they pissed off the wrong people and thought they were above retribution. |

I thought you asked about the Kennedys, not initiating a Bush-bash. http://www.uspoliticsonline.net/imag...lies/frown.gif

Someone wrote earlier that the Kennedy's think of themselves as being above most Americans. I just don't believe that to be true. In their actions on matters of policy that argument doesn't hold up either. They stood for the environment, for raising the minimum wage, for creating a ladder so that all Americans could benefit. Were they brighter than most? Yes. I think the difference between the Kennedy's and the Bush's is that the Bush's represent only those who put them in power, while the Kennedy's have historically represented everyone.
Besides, when it comes to leading the country, I would prefer a candidate who is "above" me. And what I mean by that is that I would want a president to be like the people, but at the same time, a notch above us in their thinking and reasoning. That's what makes us look up to the good ones, right? |
If you believe any of that horseshit about them, you have been hopelessly brainwashed, and I'm not even going to wade into the pasture.
