Default Why Are We Still There?
This thread has been prompted by a couple of threads on a couple of the forums of the four upon which I regularly post.
\
We presently have substancial military presence in:

IRAQ, AFGANISTAN, KOREA, JAPAN, AND EUROPE. as well as smaller contingents in several other locations, masqurading as "MILITARY ADVISORS" ( This thread is not intended to include temporary humanitarian sojourns, or Permanent Embassy Cadres to which the reasons for our presence is self evident)

I would ask each or any of you to offer your personal opinions as to :

1. Why we are still there (your choice of locations)
2. What benefit our presence is to that area, and to The United States,
3. What would be the result if we simply came home.

PLEASE NOTE: I asked for "Personal Opinions" based on morality, Religious concerned, and/or even political reasons. But PLEASE don't resort to canned partison reteric, or second hand opinions of others regardless of their stature.

Regarding IRAQ, We came here to get rid of Saddam, and then restore order (We have failed) and to help set up a new government. OK,

Elections will be held in December. We will be here to help secure an orderly Vote. But then in my opinion, we should leave.

Yesterday, 37 Iraqis (at last count) were cilled by suicide bombers, plus around 80 wounded It is obvious that this was not our doing, and also, that we could not hinder it from happening.
It has been shown that the new government (such as it is) is already very corrupt, and viciously authoritative. This will not improve with our presence. The terrorists are well entrenched ii Iraq, and we will be no more able to route them out, than we could in Viet Nam, There, you didn't know whether the person sitting next to you was friend or foe. and the same thing is true here. It seems apparent the the majority want us out of Iraq. We have worn out our welcome.
Yesterday, there were also 6 US "NEEDLESS" service fatalities . One is too many. The insurgents sharpshooters have learned to aim just below the helmets of out personnel thus bypassing their armor, and have come up with sofisticated roadside bombs which actually shoot armor pericing projectiles. We don't need this, and we did not sign on for this, And we don't need any more filled body-bags. AND IF THIS ISN'T ENOUGH,

We need our home guard "HOME" to help our Nation in it's time of need, considering Katrina, Rita, and Wilma.

Hi folks. as promised, here is my final report on the response to this thread. (Of course, I will still respond to any questions, or comments added. So here goes:

For those who wondered, I specifically declined to offer my answers to the original post, to keep the responder's comments from being compromised by including arguments against or in favor of my own positions. I will add those here.

This quest was directed to the following Forums,: Which you can check out if you wish:

http://www.pro-american.com/forums/m...p?userid=12827
http://www.itsallpolitics.com/
http://www.uspoliticsonline.com/
http://www.whistlestopper.com/forum/index.php?

Two performed as expected, but one, for some reason or other, completely ignored my post, and another couldn't seem to get on topic. I expected many more people to add their two cents since it seemed to be a very popular subject, Instead, of ten bucks worth of 2 centers, I got about fifty cents. however, this is the gist of the responsed posted.

The opinions have ranged from one poster who beleived we should not even be discussing the subject, as it should be left to our politicians who know much more about it,????????--another, who wanted all of our troops home NOW, (because they should be home protecting us rather than the other peoples of the world.) I agree with that poster "in principle", but not quite as much in reality.

[U}IRAQ and AFGANISTAN{/U] ---I have combined the two because by and large, they were combined in all posts, Just about split down the middle between those who said a near-immediate pull out, and those who said Stay the course. Then the ones who wanted to stay were again split by those who wanted to stay to "Finish the job" or just to "Save Face"(what a dumb reasin) and those who seemed to want to stay permanently, to keep the oil flowing. As for me.

On Iraq, I think we should get out ASAP after insuring the election. We have succeeded in dethroning Saddam, but we have litterally failed in assuring a safe future for the Iraqis. The oil is not worth it, and we will only be prolonging the agony of our OCCUPATION and the deaths of more Americans. Nothing else (except waiting time) will be accomplished whether we say another six months or sixteen years

I also beleive we should get out of Afganistan. From what I have hear recently, Our main emphasis there now is to convince the farmers to change from growing Poppies, to growing other more acceptable crops. This is a diplomatic issue. and thus, IMHO our military options, are ended.

EUROPE- Again, about half and half. All of those wanting to stay reasoned that we need the stratigic bases, (and Hospitals) And as for resons to stay, were nearly always for economic reasons for the European nations, rather than in the intrest of the US, and in that pulling out would be devestation to the local economies. (Ol' Moneybags unca Sam)

JAPAN Mostly to stay as strategic base in the Asia area. and that if we left, Japan might rearm because we were not there to protect them.

basically I agree that we need those bases for strategic reasons While realizing that we are there at the "pleasure" of the host countries

KOREA Mostly as a protection to keep N Korea fron ivading S Korea and to keep China in line.
One wanted to stay as a protection against the invasion of S Korea by Russia. ??????????? Another wanted us out because when N Korea invaded SKorea, Our troops would be sacreficed

Frankly, My opinion is that The North will not invade the South, unless as a serrogate for China.tho I wouldn't put it past China to do so. On it's own, It is a starving pipsqueek of a nation, in spite it's Nuke capabilities. There was never a Nuke war between the US and Russia because neither was interested in commiting suicide at the hands of the other. The same would be true of N Korea, unless they were stupid enought to fall under the spell of China

As for China (tho not mentioned in my original quest) I beleive they are becoming another USSR and that they will not be willing to risk near-total destruction by "nuke" For this reason I don't think they will be dumb enough to invade either S Korea, or Tiawan

As for Columbia. and Bosnea and many other little problem spots. I think is is about time we retract our noses. and pay attention to our own affairs.

Geez! How many of these silly "oh me, oh my, poor wittle me, let's be traitors and run like hell from Iraq" threads are allowed on this forum anyway?
It's all boring, trite and repetitive.
Give folks a break and post this nonsense on any of the other dozens of "lets cut and run" threads.

Like your threads.

I wonder how much more of that treasonous tripe the mods will allow, huh?
