Default Will Bush 2 do a Bush 1?
Will GW do what his dad did?

When the Iran Conta investigation was about to finnish up, at the end of Bush 1's term, he simply pardoned everyone involved in it, even though they had yet to be charged. Casper Wienberger walked off free as a bird.

The pardon also worked well for Richard Nixon, when his friend, Gerry Ford let him off the hook for Watergate.

And I suppose Clinton pardoned for valid reasons only?

Oh really. If that were the case, then Henry Cisneros (Hud Secretary in Clinton Admin), or former CIA director John Deutch, or even Susan McDougal, or Sandy Burgalar. The fact is every president has pardoned someone connected with the administration. This is more partisan politics than simple admission of facts.

Clinton didn't pardon anyone who was a potential witness against him in an ongoing criminal investigation, Bush did.

Clinton didn't pardon him. He was sentenced just a while ago, during the Bush admin.

Really? Does the name Susan McDougal ring a bell?

You know, Whitewater and all that good stuff?

Ok, so Clinton pardoned somebody involved in a criminal investigation that could lead against him, even though I don't agree on that, but it doesn't give "Dubyuh" the right to do the same thing.

Screw partisan politics, this is about justice for the American people, and even if former presidents abused their power, current ones shouldn't be allowed it, be it Republicans or Democrats.

This is the problem with us, we turn everything to a partisan discussion and forget about the issue at heart, our right to know and the truth and for justice to be served, I'm sick of this game.

His ability to pardon somebody in the current investigation should be questioned.

I agree, but how about we not criticize Bush for doing something he hasnt even done? If someone has committed a crime, they should be punished.

True, but it's just speculation, will he? won't he?

I don't think he will, he is under too much scrutiny anyways, and although I don't presonally agree with the President, I agree with you, let's not criticize him for doing something he hasn't done yet.

Why speculate? We might as well ask why Bush would sleep with interns. Its a non issue until theres some likeliness that it would happen.

Well, there is likeliness since Scooter was indicted and Rove might be too.

Presidents pardons like this one are familiar, so people like to speculate.

If you want to bring up pardons, you forgot to mention Clinton who pardons his pal Rich, who owed the federal government 90 million dollars.

Hey but what the heck, Clinton got a few million dollars from Rich's wife for his new library. The money went somewhere at least, but not into the Federal treasury.

Granted. The difference here is we are talking about something Clinton actuall did, versus conjecture on what Bush might do.

His ability to pardon somebody in the current investigation should be questioned.
Alas, that pesky old Constitution does not restrict the President's ability to pardon.
