Partisan tensions ease as Teddy Kennedy praises Alito

Excerpt from: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/wa...ation_hearing/

---------------------------------

Alito spoke out against judicial activism.

"While courts should use all proper judicial remedies to correct violations of the law, the courts must ensure that they do not step over the line into the fields of lawmaking or governmental administration, where the judiciary generally lacks both authority and expertise," Alito said.

Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) then praised Alito, saying he had a "very distinguished record" and "a very commendable career."

"I am sure you will have a successful one as a judge," Kennedy said.

Kennedy called him "truly outstanding."

---------------------------------

Sounds like Kennedy liked the guy, especially as a judge. Of course, that was in 1990, at Alito's confirmation hearing to become a judge on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. Kennedy, and every other Senator, voted to confirm him, with no opposition. So I guess we won't have much controversy during his hearings this time either. I'm sure Kennedy would never say about him, "A nominee who would push the Court dangerously to the right", or call his views "extreme", or anything like that.

Would he?

Its really too bad that the dipsomaniac couldn't be appearing before Alito as a defendant! the charges would range from murder to public drunkeness. His mother would be so proud......

"Outstanding" can mean more than one thing. http://www.uspoliticsonline.net/imag...es/biggrin.gif http://www.uspoliticsonline.net/imag...es/biggrin.gif http://www.uspoliticsonline.net/imag...es/biggrin.gif

You conservatives. You almost treat the actions of Ted Kennedy as if he is part of the Lex Luther criminal mind in an effort to make yourselves feel good.

So you have Ted's action of 40 years ago and you have Clinton of 10 years ago. Forget the problems in the last 2 weeks because all that is a trick. http://www.uspoliticsonline.net/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

Not quite... I treat all socialists as criminals, and my stances on Kennedy don't have anything to do with the fact that he killed a cutie 40 years ago... http://www.uspoliticsonline.net/imag...lies/frown.gif
