Visions of America

I present to all of you a question, one that is asked openly and freely out of curiousity and nothing more. What should America be? I ask that which you believe in right this very moment, based on the beliefs that you've fought for with words. Basicly, what should America be at this very moment according to you. Again, I don't hope to start a debate, just for once hear from all sides a complete picture. We're all fighting for something after all.

exsmoker 02-04-2006 02:03 AM

What do we fight for now? The same thing we fought for in our birth of nation; independence.
n 1: freedom from control or influence of another or others
The state or quality of being independent.

autonomy, freedom, liberty, sovereignty.

Whatever arguments are wrought to describe the USA, the apex is always this; The yearning to matter as an individual and the oppportunity and faith of your fellows that you do.

Our in fighting and our out fighting all the material shifting on this substratum.

IMO

That made perfect sense in my head. I hate when that happens.

My vision for America is:
A land where the rights of the individual are reestablished.
Where the business of America is business
Where we have a strong military for defense
A land where everyone is treated equally, where there is no welfare, no affirmative action, no preferences for one race or other.
A land where the national government has no place in education or health
A land where freeloaders don't exist
A land where responsibility is held just as high as freedom
A land where you reap what you sow
A land where the bill of rights cannot be tampered with by judges
A land where politicians go to jail if caught lying to the American people or when they do not honor their campaign pledges.
A land where no person can lay claim to the property of others.

The last line gained my support. Democratic europeans, the democratic negroes, the democratic asians back to their home, indian peoples at last set free. Thumbs up!
The other propositions will be betterly expressed in the new places of residence of democratic people.

Sound project.

This is too much on a Saturday morning. I will answer later.

A Republic where government and economics are seperated, as are church and state. A government limited to the courts, police and military. A government that respects individual rights to property, free speech, etc. A government that can only punish a man when he harms another one or is obviously about to.

America should be secure from foreign and domestic violence, where each citizen has the free will to make the best life that they have the ability and will to achieve, and which does not infringe on others equal rights to the same.

So which of his "a land where" points did you think were unduly tough and would create hardships on some citizens?

1. Freedom from all responsibilities; cradle to grave healthcare. http://www.uspoliticsonline.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

America should be a continuing experiment and a light to the world.
A land where the people are not slaves to the past.
A land ruled by reason, and free from superstition, at least in the official sense.
A land where government is of the people, by the people, for the people.

[4]A land where government is of the people, by the people, for the people.
Translation:
1. Progess away from the ideals of the Declaration of Independence; experiment with different forms of governance.
2. The Constitution is a dusty old paper written by slavers and should be changed.
3. Remove all traces of Christianity.
4. Cradle to grave dependency on government programs.

I believe you have to reconsider the extent to which a society can snip the ties that bind an economy to its political system and social values. It is impossible to sustain a feudalist society without the peasantry having fealty towards the aristocracy and without the aristocracy owing allegiance to the supremacy of the king.

So it is with capitalism. It is impossible to sustain an economy based on competition without legitimization of that competitive spirit through some sort of electoral process. Without the legitimization of the American dream via the voting booth, the absolute scarcity of resources and overt and despondent distribution of wealth in American society would otherwise create despair and a destructive, unmanageable populace.

Be very careful of what you wish, for it may come true.

It seems that American society is all too eager to be on the offensive. Unfortunately, your fight now appears to be in your own streets. Perhaps this is the fight of which you speak ? or is the fight one which is unmindfully one between your glorified ideals and the reality of your institutions ?

I pray for an American society which is much less fearful of itself and of those who comprise it.

A country with borders.

A country with a language.

A country with a culture.

All three properties cohesive and defined rather than dispersed and argued about.

Populated by citizenry that has and understands freedom and the concept(s) of freedom. Instead of warring amongst themselves about ten thousand differing interpretations of freedom.

Freedom must be clearly defined and clearly limited. Mostly by the citizenry itself.

Freedom is like sugar.

Too much sugar will kill a person. Too much freedom will kill a society.

Individuals easily get addicted to sugar and cause themselves sickness and disease.

Societies can get addicted to "freedom" and cause IT to dissolve (sickness/disease of a sort).

Our society is travelling into the danger zone right now. Not all of us are aware of this yet.

One word to sum it up ?

Stability.

I'd just like America to be STABLE.

We seem to have dizzied ourselves and are teetering and stumbling around like a drunken sailor on the deck of a rocking ship in the dead of night.

That's a flawed analogy. I'd say that freedom is like water; it is a natural thing, and essential for human life, but occasionally some fool drowns in it. However, that doesn't mean that we should reduce the world's supply of it.

Sugar is a natural thing too.

You CAN kill yourself by drinking too much water.

Ok.

Don't like sugar go with water.

I'm not suggesting limiting the worlds supply of something.

I'm saying that "freedom" in a society, like sugar in a diet, can be gotten too much of.

Or

I'm saying that "freedom" in a society, like water in a diet, can be gotten too much of.

Limits must be applied.

If you decided to get a good buzz one night you wouldn't quickly gulp down two fifths of bacardi 151 would you ?

Maybe 2 SHOTS.

It's about limits.

Drink two fifths if you're suicidal.

Two shots if you want to just get a little "high".

Kind of the same with freedom.

America is perfection.

I love being an American.

My only vision of the future is not to be the only super power.

Let the EU be world police for a change, so we can sit back and watch the show.

Let me explain it more clearly. Your freedom-sugar analogy is strange. Is totalitarianism merely analogous to abstinence from sugar? Or is it analogous to trying to drain the entire world of all its water, and thus condemning mankind to perpetual thirst, in order to "protect" mankind from floods and rainstorms and drowning? I say your analogy is way too light on the evils of totalitarianism.

What's wrong with that? Let's build "star wars" for protection, and let the rest of the world kill themselves off. http://www.uspoliticsonline.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
