So did they cut open the stomach of this guy to retrieve the victim's tissue?

I'm not sure why eating is in quotes in the thread title. The guy's face was actually eaten, it's not hyperbole or an exaggeration. This cannibal ate the other man's face including his entire nose

He was not a "cannibal" per se.

He was just strung out on drugs. This was not a lifestyle or belief on his part, just plain stupidity.

No need to pick an argument over cannibal, on drugs or not a cannibal is a human who eats the flesh of another human, regardless of intent. I've got to think that there is however, some sort of deep-seeded perverse desire in this guy's psyche that was brought out by whatever toxic mix of drugs he was on

Cannibal is any species that will eat its own kind.

Technically, eating anothers body parts is performing a cannibalistic action, it is not necessarily being a cannibal.

Again, how much more "evil" do you need to make this guy? Does NOT calling him a cannibal make him somehow better?

You're reading way too much into this. If I see a guy in a ferrari running over a pedestrian, do I have something against sports cars if I say a "sports car" ran over the man instead of a "car"?

Nope. That is not it.

The press is using the term "Cannibal" because it gets more attention.

There is a difference between an eater of human flesh as a life choice and someone who did it because of external influences.

The key to this case is that if the guy had already been a practitioner of cannibalism before getting tweaked, it would not have been as big a deal.... I find it to be a stronger statement of his condition under the drug if he WASN'T a cannibal, but the media knows how to get more people to pay attention in 10 seconds/words or less... better than I do.

So, were the Donner Party cannibals? Sink your teeth into that.

Aside to the audience: "Donner Party" is a common term used to describe the group. Is it possible that the press purposely used the term - you know, like Dinner Party - to implant a subliminal suggestion in the minds of readers?

Just asking.

You can ask.

I don't know. I would say the Donners did what they had to CONSCIOUSLY. It had mitigating circumstances, but they chose to become cannibalistic to survive.

Did they remain so after the fact? Do they go for a bit of fava beans on Fridays? So, by outright definition, someone can become cannibalistic without being a Cannibal.... fine line.

This guy was not sucking face because he was hungry. He was doing so because he was stark raving mad.

Just saying.

If you murder someone, you will always be known as a murderer.
