^ Technically, there's only one prophet; the rest are scholars who study what he wrote and issue commentaries.

Since there weren't cars in Mohammed's time, Saudi DMV regs must be based on extrapolation. But there's plenty of male supremacy in there to extrapolate from.

Maybe back in the day the Department of Camels and Horses didnt allow women to drive. On a serious note how can anyone actually believe that the words from God would advocate such horrible treatment of human beings and such a violent response to a non issue.

Who is our God? Are we all of the same religious persuasion?

Alonzo,
Exactly. And many of those who worship "foreign" gods do not believe in the hate and intolerance propounded in their own countries. Many relocate and may be living next door. Extremists, whether they be living in Iraq or Colorado, are just that.

^ That's right, you can find them nearly everywhere, and in some places they're even in control.

If you're lucky enough to be of the House of Saud, you can become a diplomat, travel to places like Paris, New York, London, Miami Beach, and Las Vegas; and discard the oppression of your own making.

If we just had to invade an Arab country, Saudi Arabia would have made a better candidate than the one we selected.

They may have put up more of a fight at the actual 'war' stage. Plus I doubt the US would have had any support for it from other countries.

We did 'invade' Saudi Arabia in 1991.

Many Saudi pilots were affronted by the sight of USAF female officers in cammo T-shirts giving orders to male subordinates.

Works for me.

Are you sure it was the pilots? Are you sure it wasn't the few extremist religious leaders?

Extremist religious leaders wouldn't have been allowed on the base.

The situation still exists today. When they are off-base, female military personnel have to wear a black abaya and head scarf.

C-Span broadcast a recent press conference, in which President Bush was specifically asked about the Saudi rape case. The President dodged the question, and said simply, "they know where we stand" or some such drivel.

It would have been nice had he said something like, "The treatment of this woman is an affront to civilized people the world over, and the Saudi government needs to correct this inhumane treatment immediately."

It makes me sick that we buy one drop of their precious oil.

Mohamed?

On a subject like a woman being charged for her own rape, there is no "polite" way to address it.

Really Mohamed.. I second Ninjahedge's comments.

But getting back to the topic at hand, it boggles my mind that countries like this even exist. Where is the justice for this young woman (and the man too)? It's absolutely frightening.

She's been pardoned. The wording of the decision was lame, but at least the punishment has been stopped.
