jwk: If the law states that one cannot discriminate in employment, housing, etc. due to "sexual orientation" then, under that language, the law would also cover those not in the homo crowd (who you seem fear so much) and thereby your "Joe and Mary Sixpack" would be able to secure employment without fear of discrimanatory acts by "homosexuals, lesbians, and transgender" employers. So tell me lofter, why do you object to people being free to mutually agree in their contracts and associations? Why do you support extremists who wish to use the force of government to impose themselves upon others by compelling them to engage in contracts and associations which may be unwanted? Why do you support bigoted extremists who are intolerant toward protecting the unalienable right of all people being left free to mutually agree in their contracts and associations? JWK |

jwk: post the language of the proposed legislation, please -- and then we can talk. So I did some googling ... Below is an item from the Agenda of the Largo, Florida (October 2003) City Commission describing the anti-discrimation Policy. Seemingly this policy was NOT approved by the Largo City Commissioners. Note that the language of the Policy states that it is in regard to behavior by City Employees and indicates that it would protect just about everyone from discrimination:A-3. Implementation of Discrimination and Harassment Prohibition PolicyHuman Resources Director Sinz reports that the City Commission has approved the Discrimination and Harassment Prohibition policy effective immediately. The new policy specifically prohibits bias, prejudice, intimidation, coercion and harassment by any City employee at the work place, during business trips, or at City functions. The new policy mandates treating all human beings with respect regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression. Any verbal, physical, or visual conduct that belittles, demeans, denigrates, or shows hostility toward an individual or group will disciplined up to and including discharge. At the regular Commission meeting on October 7, 2003, Mayor Jackson asked how staff will document that all employees receive and understand the new policy. Human Resources Director Sinz advises that the revised policy will be distributed to employees. In addition, Human Resources will highlight the policy in the Monday Morning Briefing, and will conduct additional training for all employees in November and December. Employees will be required to sign a form indicating receipt of the policy, and pledging to uphold this policy to keep the City of Largo a work place free of harassment and discrimination. New employees will receive the policy at sign-in and will also be required to sign a form. The always informative Pam's House Blend has an in-depth article:
Largo, FL officials vote to dismiss trans city manager This is one of the most incredible displays of overt official in-your-face cases of ignorance and bigotry against the T population, I've seen. I can't even believe I'm reading this insanity. The commission in Largo, Florida has yet to explain its decision to fire its city commissioner in any way that makes sense. City commissioners ended one of the most tumultuous weeks in Largo history Tuesday night by moving to fire City Manager Steve Stanton following his disclosure that he will have a sex-change operation. After listening to about 60 speakers, mostly from Largo, a majority of commissioners said they had lost confidence in Stanton's ability to lead. "His brain is the same today as it was last week," Commissioner Gay Gentry said. "He may be even able to be a better city manager. But I sense that he's lost his standing as a leader among the employees of the city." Commissioners voted 5-2, with Mayor Pat Gerard and Commissioner Rodney Woods in dissent, to place Stanton on paid leave while his departure is made final.Pams offers a link to a video of Stanton's respsonse |
