I think I pretty much realized since I was very small. My parents showed me documentaries and stuff. But my first racial encounter came when I was around ten or eleven. I was in a summer camp and we any to a zoo far out. At the time me being Muslim wasn't strange but me being black have us all types of looks. There we were called coloreds, can't believe some people still use that word and when he saw us get mad he backed it up by saying his friends are coloreds. Lol

I do say though I have always lived in a pred black and latino neighborhoods and I'm realizing now that we make black negative ourselves and give privileges to non blacks or light skin blacks. I hate to say it but I've just realized that people have priveledged me over my friend because she is darker. the while idea of black being negative begins in our community and that fact is sad.
We made ourselves look like shit recently, Gwyneth tweeting "Niggas in Paris" and Jay-Z and Kanye West not checking her ass on it,
