Elone, off white ghetto scholar...
You tried to get his Ghetto Card once, but he owned you. And walked off into the dust leaving you blinking.

Because of my Christian last name, people assumed I was half white and I just went with it, since they could never fathom that I was nothing but Indian

---------- Post added 2012-03-17 at 13:54 ----------

Lol. Some people believe me when I told them i'm an Inuit native. Lol quite amusing, but usually I dint lie about who I am. I can pass for most east asian like korean, han chinese, japanese..... Then vietnamese, thai, laotian.... Due to the seasons, I tan very brown.... Lol
In the past I mistook a lot of tanned Chinese for being Filipino or Indonesian because of that...

Yeah, it's always interesting to run into Indians who have two Anglo-American sounding names like John and Thomas for first and last names.

How damn interesting.

Once in the States, some people mistook me to be Apu (the ethnicity was correct) from the Simpsons. Since I was a minority at the bar, I just acted like him and spoke in the Indian accent. They were damn thrilled, and the female bar tender gave me a nice smile. I was thrilled.

You spoke in Farsi or Turkish or Spanish to play along. Or did you clarify: Dudes, I am a Pakistani Pashtun. It is fun to play along, though.

I have no need to hide the fact of having some spanish ancestry. I am what I am right now, and my country has always been based in culture and not in DNA. So I never lie.

Nope. Although because people always confuse me of being of MENA descent, I sometimes wish to learn how to speak with an Arabic-American accent in English just to see the reaction on people's faces given all the anti-MENA sentiment that is commonplace in some more ignorant areas.

I don't, but a few times people have insisted that I "have" to be Dominican or Habesha (Ethiopians in DC often think I am, but I think it's just the hair. Lol) Once this older gentleman came into my store looking for a dress for his wife and kept insisting that I was Cuban and proceeded to tell me his whole family line from Spain and somewhere in Africa to Cuba. So I just went along with it like "Sure...maybe I have a Cuban great-grandma or something."

Not that I recall. I did think that I had distant Scottish ancestry at one point, so if I was asked about it I would say I did, but it turns out not. I was under the impression that one of my maternal ancestors' names was Scottish, but it turned out to be English.

I dont lie about my ethnicity but rather sometimes be not as specific. For example oh Im half NW European and I list the countries but for my Jewish side I will sometimes say West Asian or I would say they came from Russia (Russian Jews) so Im not lying per say, but just not being very specific. Its not because Im ashamed of being half Jewish or anything, but rather how some people react when I tell them.

People here confuse me for a mainlander (Honduran, Venezuelan, Peruvian, you name it) all the time. I used to get annoyed and correct them on the spot, but nowadays I don't bother so much and simply get along with the charade.

My brother looks Filipino and can speak with their accent on top of that. He gets along fine by lying that he's Pinoy.
