Imagine if let's say Scarlett Johansson saying it's better to have light skin, she would be euthanized
Well, she would have to explain that is just her skin preference, and that doesn't mean to sund racist or mean anything like it.
if she says something like that on here on PR for example, she wouldn't have issues, but as the US is a racist society, then anything that sounds racist willl be labeled as that.

I think because she wished to embrace it because Latino heritage is big and recognized, more than Creole.

I nuderstand it is not self hate. Latino or Latina is a generic concept imposed by the dominant culture in USA meaning Anglos. I do not identify as a Latino either only Puertorican and Caribbean. I am as estranged to Southern Americans as I am to Anglos the only thing I share with Southern Americans is the use of a language. It is a social and cultural thing but even if you break it down the caribbean has distinct genetic components as well that differentiates it to other latin american countries and its own history as well.

If it sounds self hating to some it may be because in fact it is the case here or not. However, it may as well just mean that she resists being labeled as such. I would have probably done the same and as a matter of fact I do it all the time in Spain where apparently they have incorporated the same generic labeling of people so different among themselves; I tease ask what is that, proceed to discuss about the social construction of the cocnept, and then blow away their minds by resectfully telling them that they have offended me because of their vulgarity and their ignorance.
Agreed

Okay she not want to be labeled, but also want to escape reality is ridiculous
What if an Icelandic dyed her hair dark, got tanned and used brown contacts? I bet you shouldn't say anything. "Oh, she just likes it that way".

She only looked that way for one movie. People are ignorant, using that pic against her.

Ok, she dyed her hair blonde and wore blue contacts for a movie. No assumptions about her self-image can be made from that.

Edit: Maroon King beat me to it.

Is that her decision? That is what the movie producers wanted for her CHARACTER in the movie.

Okay she not want to be labeled, but also want to escape reality is ridiculous Escape what reality? Her reality related to her pheno is a reality completely separated to an (other) reality one that that is related to her Identity. Being Latino does not have anything to do with a look. People would better say Mix race for those Latinos who look mix raced but even if they are mixed race admix proportions vary from one end to the other.

Yeah she actually thought she would be more Native American and expected that from her DNA test, but she found out she's predominantly European and was shocked. So she never saw herself as a white girl neither for all those people accusing her of self-hate.

^^ In the case of latin american actors and singers it is the other way around for they capitalize over the concept of Latino when touring and selling albums. In reality, every latin american knows that if they ever encounter a foreigner of an other latin american country it will always be a new and exotic experience.
