I live in the United States and as such, I am aware of many of the issues here. There is a huge problem among African Americans discriminating against each other because of the shades of their skin. Blacks don't only encounter discrimination from other people. In my opinion, this should be at the forefront of all Negro-centrists agenda, correcting this problem.
Here are two eye-opening videos I want to share with you. The first is a girl (obviously looks more African than anything else) who is Biracial. Despite this she expressed self-disgust and hatred towards her black side. She makes statements such as: "I am scared of black people" "I wish my skin was lighter" and even says she has a confederate flag. I promise, if you watch this video it will enlighten you to some of the problems and social stigma of blacks in the United States. The unfair social and pre-conceived notions they have about each other are indeed scary. It is a big issue, and very unfortunate and contributes to some of the bigoted opinions non-blacks have about them. Start this video at 1:02, and you will hear some of the most outrageous things you have ever heard. Another video, a black man who hates his own race is helped by Tyra Banks to disguise himself as a "white man" for a day. How common do you think this is among African-Americans? What about for Blacks living in European countries? This is a serious issue. What can we do together with Blacks to help solve it? |

Colorism is an issue for some new world peoples including Blacks and Latinos but I wouldn't call it a huge problem. The examples you provide are of extremely crazy people (as I'm sure you are aware) and in no way do they represent Aframs in general. Your deep concern for Black people is heartwarming as usual.

I've never really met an African American who wasn't proud of their heritage to be quite honest. For example, some dark-skinned blacks refer to light-skinned blacks as "House Negro" and accuse them of thinking they are "better than them" while "light-skinned" blacks accuse dark-skinned ones of being less civilized or lower than themselves. I don't think it's as big a problem as for example, White American suburban youth identifying with black culture and pretending to be black "wiggers" we call them, but it should be brought up of course. For their own sake. |

I haven't really either. And even if they are proud of their heritage, it's a fact that it is a big issue with them discriminating against each other for the shades of their skin. As, for Whiter American suburban youth acting black? I see that all the damn time, it can get pretty annoying. I've even seen this one "wigger" treat a black man better than others just because he's African American. Do I care? Not really, but it's just something I've observed. |

In my experience the only time "colorism" plays a big role is when it comes to inter-racial dating. Lighter skin AA females, ie "yellow bones" having more success than dark skin AA females ie "redbones" (depends on your definition). Conversely AA males around my skin tone have more success in interracial coupling than light skin AA males.
This is just from my personal experience of course. Perhaps it is because if a white or latino female wanted a light skinned male they would simply go for a latino male? |

This Tyra Banks woman and her show really get on my nerves. She obviously has a racial complex herself and is broadcasting all sorts of racially insecure people around the world with the excuse of 'helping them'. This is one of the rare kinds of entertainment I would call sick, it's disturbing how prepared people are to take advantage of others this way. If she really wanted to help people she would stop patronising a whole race on national television. I find it interesting to watch because I am intrigued but I can also see how it is sickly flattering to many people to watch others try to be the way they are without any effort or achievement in life. It's surreal.

Colorism isn't a big problem. It isn't as widespread, pervasive, or simplistic as often portrayed either.
Tyra Banks is simple-minded. She embodies some of the worst stereotypes about models. Her shows are ignorant and basically a platform for all her unresolved issues. "I’m taking off my 9 lbs of weave to show my real hair for one whole day", "I’m going to get my breasts scanned by a doctor to prove they aren’t fake", "I’m going to dress in a fat suit", "women who hate their faces/bodies/mothers/fathers/ethnicity/race/coloring/eyeshape/shoe size/boyfriend/female friends" - day… then pressuring guests to admit they feel fat, ugly, ignored, unloved, disregarded (too) |

But why do you think that is (that "lighter skinned" black women have more success at interracial dating) than dark black women? Do you think attitude is a problem somehow among them? 1. White men that are attracted to To dark skinned AA females are rare 2. AA females that are attracted to White males are also rare 3. AA females tend to give white men a harder time in the whole "game of pursuit" 4. White men are less likely to attempt to pursue an AA female even if they are attracted to her. Thats my perspective on it, perhaps a white male or AA females perspective would be more accurate or revealing. |

I agree with you for once. Is the show still on? They used to reruns at like one or two in the morning. I have trouble sleeping so I'd watch occasionally (my excuse) but I no longer watch television. She's not bad looking, btw,but does represent the airhead model stereotype well. Oh, an colorism is bad, to be on topic. |

She's competing with other shows and so she does what she has to do to draw an audience. Although as Bonner says many of her episodes are based on her insecurities. The thing is, she is still pretty much selling out her own race and putting them out in a bad light. That's inexcusable. It's whorish. But yeah, I do not care much anyway. |

Attitude is defiantly a factor, in general black women are a little different than other women, but their attitude and personality really depends on their background. I think its a combination of several factors. but your right, white people tend to feel intimidated by black folks, women aswell.,because they are usually more assertive than other women,so they dont go for them as much.or because they think that black women are loud.this isnt always the case..but the ones that fit those stereotypes stand out the most so it gives that impression. but yeah your right for the most part.white people arent assertive enough and i think that black girls must take that as weak or somethig.but idk. |
