Default Who would you side with in the event of war?
If your host country, went to war with your ancestral homeland who would you side with?

For instance if France went to war with Algeria, America with Israel or Germany with Turkey.

I consider my "host country" to be my ancestral homeland, since many of my ancestral lines go back over 300 years. The only recent immigrant ancestor I have is from a nation that is quite alien to me. So of course I would fight for my homeland against any foreign threat if I needed to choose.

yes you say that, but you are an Indian from India, not from Canada, The US, Uk, the overwhelming majority of Indians born here support India, when India play England in cricket.

Well, then they are being dumb assess, sorry to say. Ones sovereignty should be with the host nation, if naturalized (or born) then even more. That is what nationality is. Not just a piece of paper to be able to work and get benefits. It is a give-take, not just take - take.

Anyways, I answered cause I thought I found it fine. You should have made it clear that you only want the question open to people with a difference in country and PP issuance.

The side which I relate to the most. Tamil Vs Malayali, I'd take Malayali. Indian Vs Pakistani, I'd take Indian. Muslim Vs Hindu, then I'd support the Muslim side.

I would not take any side if my host country is in war with my ancestral homeland. However I will not leave my ancestral homeland(citizenship) so this question will never arise for me.

It is hard to choose but if the U.S. were to declare war on Mexico, I'd have to side with the U.S.

I was born in Mexico but I grew up in the States and this is my home. It is tough and many Mexican posters will hate me for this but I am just being honest here. I love Mexico, don't get me wrong but the U.S. has given me everything that Mexico could not.

The founder of the P IRA was born in London.

The majority of Subcontinental and Caribbean 2nd and 3rd generation in England support their respective homelands when they play England.

When push comes to shove we very often go back to our tribe.

I believe allot of Mexican-Americans would side with Mexico.

Depends on the reason for the war. If my country was doing something wrong, my ancestral country. If my ancestral country was doing something wrong, my host country.

Anyways, reminds me about this debate I was having with my friend over the TV show Whale Wars. He said "You only hate the Sea Shepherd guys because you're half Faroese". No, if I wasn't I'd still think what they were doing is wrong.

I would have to ask Russian governement to jail me for disobeying the orders to go to war. I still hold the Russian passport so I will of course have to demonstrate the loyalty despite my personal opinion and feelings.

Yes, I believe so, too. My theory is that they have no love for the U.S. because they feel like they don't belong here and also because their parents have taught them to see themselves solely as Mexicans and not as Americans, even though they were born in the U.S.
Also, many of them do not integrate into mainstream American society and don't identify with American culture, some actually see it as something foreign or alien to them. I have integrated successfully into American culture and feel pride and respect for this country. Sometimes, I'll admit, I do side with Mexico, especially at sporting events but only because Mexico is such an underdog or has mediocre athletes, that I do root for them to kick the Americans' ass at least once.

Well in a USA vs. Mexico war I could see average civilian Mexican-Americans having a conflict over that, but the fact of the matter is a lot of Mexican-Americans already serve in the US military, police, border patrol, etc. and they would probably in majority follow whatever orders they were given.

When survival mode kicks in, we often we go back to our tribal allegiances.

Look at the way people in the US prison system voluntarily segregate themselves into Latino, White and Black groups, even if they get along fine with other races and grew up in an ethnically mixed neighbourhood.
