Olympic silver medalist and former Florida Gator Jeff Demps has agreed to a deal with the New England Patriots, opting against a move to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Fox 13 has learned.
Demps' official announcement will come this afternoon. The decision for the former Gator running back and Olympic sprinter came down between the Bucs and Patriots. Demps just felt New England is a better fit. New England is a preseason Super Bowl favorite, giving them an edge over Tampa Bay. The Bucs made a strong push for Demps. They had been in discussions with his representatives for months. Demps is flying back to Orlando after visiting with New England. That's when he will make is announcement. In four years at Florida, Demps had 2,470 career yards rushing and 23 touchdowns. He did not attend any college football senior all-star games or take part in any NFL draft workouts.
