The candidates, and the reasoning behind them:
Mike Mularkey- Jags are a mess right now, and Khan might be willing to pull the plug after one season if things get uglier. Mike Shanahan- Big expectations. Snyder wants a winner, and Shanahan has yet to deliver. Drafting a QB in the first round may buy him another grace period. Pat Shurmur- His playcalling last season was way to predictable, and his roster is very inexperienced. Worst of all, a new owner is coming in that may want to clean house. Leslie Frazier- 2+ seasons may be enough if no real progress is made this season. Lovie Smith- Lovie always dances on the hot seat. But this season the expectations are very high, and missing the playoffs for the 5th time in 6 years may be the final straw. Norv Turner- I'm still amazed he hasn't been fired already. Jason Garrett- Jerry Jones has higher hopes for his team than anyone else. And much like when Garrett succeeded Philips, the Boys have a replacement ready on the staff. Romeo Crennell- Got the job after a decent interim run. Could lose it if the team falters, especially if they stay healthy and falter. Andy Reid- There is always a chance the city of Philadelphia riots and the fans manage to seize control of the team. Jeff Schwartz- A big step backwards by the team or more discipline problems inseason may prompt the Lions to go in another direction Gary Kubiak- Saved his job by finally making the playoffs. Would missing them this season put his job back in jeopardy? Mike Smith- 1st coach to manage not just back to back winning seasons for the Falcons, but 4 straight. If the team continues to regress, will that history of success be enough? Rex Ryan- Ryan always invites Super Bowl expectations. But he's consistently fallen short. A second season watching the playoffs at home might call for a scapegoat, and we all know Tannebaum is never to blame. Chan Gailey- The Bills opened up the vault this offseason. Anything less than a winning record would be an epic failure. Ken Whisenhunt- Probably the least likely, but hasn't had much success since Kurt Warner retired. Ownership may decide to re-evaluate who to credit for past successes. |

I said Shanahan, because his owner has no patience and after the trade up to get their QB, there will be no time to let him grow in to the job.
Norv Turner should have been fired at least twice by now. He won't do any better this year, but he obviously has pictures of someone with goats or something and will keep his job for a few years. |
