Vilma assisted Williams in "establishing and funding the program." Vilma offered $10,000 bounty in cash for knocking out Kurt Warner.

Vilma later "pledged the same amount" to anyone who knocked Brett Favre out of the 2009 NFC Championship game.

Pro Football Weekly@ProFootballWkly
Scott Fujita pledged "a significant amount of money" to bounty pool during 2009 playoffs. Fujita is now with the #Browns.

Nice, punish the Packers (and browns) after the draft for what the Saints did.

Will Smith assisted Williams in establishing/funding bounty program. Pledged significant sums to pool for "cart-offs" and "knockouts."

So what Hargrove did was twice as bad?

In their eyes, I guess.

What the saints did... yes. But also what the PLAYER did. How many players were involved in this and not suspended? These players obviously went above and beyond to get their suspensions.

Can Green Bay drop Hargrove now? Seems like a waste having him out there for 8 games when he won't be up to speed.

Hargrove, who submitted "signed declaration," also "actively obstructed" the league's 2010 investigation into the bounty program. #Saints

Goodell focused on "those individuals who had a higher degree of responsibility and whose conduct warranted special attention."

If it's the first 8 games during 4 of which Neal will also be suspended, they may not want to keep him. But I recall his contract was structured so that the Packers got him extra cheap if he did get suspended. So he may be cheap insurance for later in the year.

Just saw his cap hit is only $450,000. He'll stick around. He'll fill in for Neal when Neal ends up hurt after his first game of actual playing time.

What do you mean?

The suspensions were announced AFTER THE DRAFT.

You can't see how that can be punitive?

Um, the league has no obligation to do it before the draft. Not to mention, it isn't as if the Packers weren't aware this could be a possibility when they signed him.

You are right, Goodell also has no obligation to be a dick, but he somehow manages that.

However, since there is no precedent for this, maybe they would have thought 2 games, maybe a fine, maybe something else.

I suspect they were tipped off in some way.

Which is why I don't get the Saints' draft picks.

NFLPA has filed a grievance;

The NFLPA contends that in connection with 2011 CBA, the NFL released all players from conduct prior to execution of CBA on August 4, 2011.
