Default Jeff Fisher will manage in Miami or St. Louis
@AdamSchefter Adam Schefter
Jeff Fisher said today he is considering coaching next season in only two places, Miami or St. Louis, and will make his decision next week.

In one place, he could bring in his own QB, if he wanted to.

In the other, there is no GM in place.

I've read that Fisher isn't a huge Bradford fan...I wonder about that. But this is the same guy that grounded Air McNair, and stumped for Vince Young.

To bad there isn't any huge, mobile QB's available for him to draft early this year.

Do retread coaches ever succeed?

I don't mean Parcells or Holmgren either.

I mean guys who get canned then get hired somewhere.

I guess Billy Belicheck is the exception.

Shanahan would be another. John Fox has done well this year in difficult circumstances.

Coughlin won a Super Bowl on go number 2.

What's the definition of "succeed"?

If we are talking winning seasons, then Norv Turner, Wade Phillips, and MartyBall would all fit as well. Jimmy Johnson..Dave Wannestadt...

success to me would be to either win a SB or leave on your own terms. Or both.

Gruden wasn't fired, though.

Sports Illustrated had an article on retread head coaches.

Apparently, go #2 tends to be their most successful try. They've had the experience, they know what works and what doesn't, and they can avoid previous mistakes better. #3 usually ends up being a disaster.

That SI article touted Marty Morninwhig as a guy who may do well in a second go around.

I'm pretty sure the story goes that Fisher didn't want Young and was overruled by Adams. And I've heard the Bradford talk too, but not sure how true that is.

Regarding the GM in Miami, I'm guessing that wouldn't be much of an obstacle. I think Ireland would be gone in no time if he was standing in the way of Fisher accepting. Then again, I read somewhere that Fisher and Ireland have worked together before. Can't find it right now though.

I mis-read the title. As in menage a trois.

I keep wondering how St. Louis is still in the running for Fisher. It certainly doesn't seem like they are trying very hard to "woo" him. They didn't bring him to St. Louis to see the facilities when they interviewed him (met with him in Denver!). Now he's in St. Louis today to see the facilities and he's flying Southwest in and out of town.

I know they have a young QB who many think is a rising star, but I don't think it's any lock that Bradford becomes an elite QB. And I know they have a stud RB, but he's approaching 30 and has A LOT of miles on him, he can't have too many productive seasons left in him. Outside of that I'm struggling to see a huge advantage in St. Louis' personnel.

And then I'm reminded why they haven't had to pull out all the stops the way Miami, or another team, might have. His agent's son is the VP in St. Louis. Now it makes sense to me.
