Ex-Bears DT Tank Johnson cut by Bengals
![]() Former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tank Johnson has been released by the Cincinnati Bengals. Johnson was placed on season-ending injured reserve last November with a knee injury after starting the first seven games. He first injured the knee against Miami on Halloween, and finished the season with just five tackles and no sacks. In two seasons with the Bengals, Johnson had 21 tackles in 21 games, including 20 starts. The Bengals started Domata Peko and second-year man Geno Atkins at defensive tackle in the preseason opener, and have Clinton McDonald, Jason Shirley and Lolomana Mikaele also competing for time in the middle of the defensive line. Johnson, an eighth-year veteran, played his first three seasons in Chicago before playing for Dallas from 2007-08. His Bears career was marred by a gun-possession conviction and the team released him in 2007 after a speeding arrest in Arizona. He has 135 career tackles with 14 sacks, and is primarily known for his run defense. |
